The Walk appears to be the name of a large waterside collection of various restaurants and it’s also the name of a large restaurant located at the end of the pier.
I dined inside The Walk restaurant and I ordered two bowls of chicken orzo soup, molokheya, rice, a small mixed grill, two pigeons, four salads, and two cups of lemon mint juice. The chicken soup with orzo was flavorful and a great starter. The molokheya was bland and was difficult to appreciate. However, the flavorful rice made up for the lack of flavor in the molokheya. The mixed grill was dry. I believe this was because the kitchen staff cooked the meat well done; prepared the food in large batches in advance of the iftar meal; and the staff appeared to store the meat in aluminum foil after cooking it. The pigeons (or rice with pigeon as the bird barely contains a cup worth of meat) were good; however my husband could only eat one. The tahini, bitingan, masa’a, and tomato salad were delicious due to their balanced and complex combination of flavors. The bread was too doughy for me. The lemon mint juice was unpleasant in part because it was bitter and in part because it contained green syrup instead of actual mint leaves.
Warning: if you are not fasting and you visit during Ramadan and before iftar, then be sure to inform the staff so you receive your food quickly. Be sure not to accept every salad placed on your table, otherwise you will be charged whether or not you eat them. Immediately refuse any salad you do not want. The ladies room didn’t contain toilet paper or hand soap, which was really concerning to me. Poor bathroom hygiene doesn’t support good hygiene in the kitchen or handling of food, drinks, or cutlery.
Also, be forewarned that this venue is still under construction. It’s located at the end of a long walkway and you will have to walk through an active construction site, sand, dirt, and wires. It is unsettling and unpleasant. You will wonder if you are walking in the right direction. This experience made me uncomfortable. Why would I want to eat at a restaurant with an incomplete entrance? The restaurant where you actually eat appears complete; however, the outside is still under construction. This venue is absolutely not accessible and it does not appear to be safe for elders or children.
There appeared to be many staff and they moved about or stood around nervously - it looked quite unorganized. However, the staff was attentive and pleasant. The furniture contains gold colored metal finishes that are dangerous and unsanitary. A waiter filleted his hand on the gold lining of a chair and I spotted old food and hair beneath the gold dinner table lining. This was nauseating to witness. What else was unclean in this venue?
Overall, the food was mediocre and the venue wasn’t prepared for full service dining. I could tell from the design that restaurant management wants this venue to have a modern and sexy vibe, and accommodate families, friends, colleagues and dates of all ages. However, a dining experience begins well before one enters a restaurant. If a diner arrives stressed because of her experience walking through an entrance that is in shambles, then the venue starts off at a deficit. The rhythm of the waitstaff and supervisors should flow, and provide the illusion of organization and collaboration. The bathrooms should be hygienic and stocked with soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper. The decor should be safe and sanitary. The tables should contain additional seasonings to make up for ill prepared meals. All of these observations consist of customer service and highly impact the dining experience. The only thing this venue got right was the pigeon. Still, I would not return to this venue and I don’t recommend it, at least not until management makes dramatic changes to the restaurant’s hygiene and...
