Tourist Trap! This restaurant was super disappointing. I wish I'd spent my money elsewhere because I could have gotten more enjoyment at another restaurant. TLDR: Overpriced, mediocre service, average food, nice decor, English-friendly, serves many local dishes They show off their TripAdvisor recommended stickers, but that's all this restaurant has to offer. They don't deserve it. The reason they're recommended is because they're one of the few Egyptian restaurants on TripAdvisor/GoogleMaps that's English-accessible. The first frustrating aspect is that the price of food is higher in restaurant than if you order from a food delivery service such as Glovo. Their higher prices are too much for the poor service they offer. Secondly, their service (as others have commented) is poor. For the amount of waiters walking around, it took a bit too long to get menus. And then one of the waiters tried to take away our plates while we were still eating. I literally still had food in my hand when he asked if he could take the plate away. On top, they don't include the 14% VAT/tax in the price (most restaurants do) and they also tack on an ADDITIONAL 12% service fee. Oh, and don't forget the 6 EGP cover charge for the bread and butter you don't order but will get billed for. Actually, we got billed twice for it, but got one of them taken off tht bill. The best part of my meal was my Carob juice and lentil soup. The lentil soup was served with fresh lime juice and pita chips. My husband and I also ordered the vegetarian casserole (basically zucchini soup) and a local dish called Molokhia (called Green Jew on the menu). Both were small, but tasted OK. We were still hungry, but didn't think it would be worth ordering more. We got a big bowl of juicy fruit down the street for less than the price of my drink. My advice is to enjoy local food somewhere else. Get some Kushary, Hummus, Falafel, Pita or another Middle Eastern food at a different establishment. Hell, pay an English-speaking local to help you find some good food. You could pay your guide and your meal bill for the same price (or less) as what...
Read moreCruel and rude staff and manager .. Avoid I used to go to this place when i was a child, it's good atmosphere and good food. But one year ago I went with my friend after a long tour in downtown and i Ordered 1 dish for me with a juice and a coffee for my friend. 10 minutes after taking my order the waiter came back and old me your order had been rejected by the manager and he cancelled it. I told him how this could happen? he told me "I don't know" the manager was the one who did that. I told him to call the manager he told me " he Is at the corridor if you want to speak to him GO YOURSELF" !!!! I went to the manager who appeared to be over 60years old with a worn suit he told me with a smile "Yes I did it, we aren't here a coffee shop for you and your friend" .. You must order 2 full dinners each one at least 200 EGP .. which means 400 EGP. I told him the menu doesn't contain any dinner with 200 EGP and how you could say this? If you're a respectable place you must write in your menu that you have a minimum charge. he told me "we don't have a minimum charge", I asked him so how do you say this .. he told me "that's as I told you" so I told him that that's gonna be bad for the restaurants reviews and I'll tell everyone i meet about what happened. " He told me we don't need you and your friends to come, we have a good rate allover the world". So I told him that what you say is Ethically unwise and left the restaurant Anyway it was my fault for not calling the...
Read moreTOURIST TRAP ALERT! AVOID! The only reason you should be coming to eat here is because you were taken by your tour like I was, thus unavoidable. So since you can't get away from eating here, here's some things to look out for: The English prices are heavily inflated (obviously), but on top of that you will be charged an additional 26% in taxes and service charges (aka gullible tourist ATM fees). Each bill gets an additional 6 LE added on as a "cover" charge, as if this was a nightclub, which is also subject to the aforementioned 26% in fees. Food comes out very slowly and only a few at a time, meaning some people could finish eating by the time other people get their food. They'll also shortchange you happily, as if the previous 2 sets of charges weren't enough to tip them for their "service". I recommend ordering minimally (or not at all) and eating in the evening, or snacking during the day so you aren't as hungry. Pay in exact cash if possible, avoid using a credit card here. The food is mediocre-average so don't spend 200+ LE on grilled meat expecting to taste where that money...
