EP’s Bar & Grill was a great spot for an early dinner. We arrived around 4:30 PM on a Friday (Valentine’s Day) and were seated quickly. Our server Barry was super friendly, had our drinks out fast, and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. We started with the BBQ nachos, and Barry warned us they were huge. He was right - a solid two-four person appetizer. They were piled high with tender pork, flavorful BBQ sauce, and cheese sauce that actually tasted fresh, not like the cheap pre-packaged kind you get at most places. They were so good but we did not stop there. For the main course, my wife got the Delta Burger with EP sauce on the side and Parmesan fries. I went with a flatbread topped with pepperoni, chorizo, and bacon. The portions were generous, and we ended up needing to-go boxes. The food was great overall. Later that night, around 9:30 PM, we went back for dessert and had Barry as our server again. My wife got the chocolate cake and raved about it. I had the fried PB&J, which was served with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream did not taste like imitation or store bought - it was very rich, creamy, and had a homemade texture and flavor that made it stand out. The atmosphere was laid-back and the retro booths added to the experience. Barry took great care of us both times. Prices were reasonable for a hotel restaurant, and the bar had a decent selection of domestic and local brews for those who drink. Overall, EP’s Bar & Grill delivered great food, solid service, and a fun atmosphere. This is a strong option if you are staying at The Guest House.

Upon our arrival we were seated by a manager who was very unfriendly. After about 15 minutes our order was taken by a hostess who kept apologizing that she was having to take our order and not our regular server. Finally, a server came to confirm the order the hostess had taken and then let us know it would be about 20 minutes before our food was ready. We ordered 2 drinks from the bar that took 30 minutes to come out. By then we had our appetizers and food, which were brought out at the same time. Once we started eating the chick-a-rones appetizer our friend noticed the chicken was pink and cold to the touch after he’d already taken a bite and swallowed it! We checked the other 6 pieces and all of them were raw and cold to the touch! We notified our server immediately and spoke to what appeared to be a cook who also acted surprised. Everyone was shocked and could not believe this had happened. Our friend spoke to the manager who comped their meal and then told him to file a report with security since he was concerned about getting sick. After about an hour a security guard finally showed up. She took our report and asked if that was it. Not sure what the purpose of having to tell a security guard that we were served raw chicken was but…If we could do negative stars we would. Not what we expected from this resort for sure!

Rolled into this hospitality is amazing hotel, asked when the food closed and was told 11 PM. Walked into the EP at 10:05, asked for the booth. Was told it wasn’t someone’s section so we had to be sat 10 feet away on a table, while two servers sat on another table 20 feet away in a place with seven people in it. 15 minutes later, no drink order, nothing. Same two servers 20 feet away. Moved to the bar, 10:20. Actually got an order somewhat quickly. 15 minutes later the chips and cheese came, the meat came straight from the refrigerator and the cheese was warm. The short rib quesadilla was actually three tacos. By time we were finished eating, the bar had been completely cleared off. It was more important for the bar tender and the servers to be counting the money and closing everything. This is a restaurant that doesn’t have to go lids for the dip or anything else? Never got asked if I wanted anything else to drink or really anything else and why would I / you be when the entire bar was emptied of anything to drink by 10:45 and the people who had come and gone were more important than the ones sitting in front of you. I would say all talk no action, but it was no talk, no action.

We ended up eating late at The Guest House because we'd had an early dinner on our way to Memphis. There are four places guests can eat here and we chose EP's Bar & Grill just by chance walking around. The bar is mostly bourbon and whiskey, which is common in TN. The only rum and gin they had available were each in a generic bottle. I passed on the rum and chose a bourbon but my partner tried the mystery gin.

We got around to ordering an app of bourbon wings to split, an order of Southern fried catfish and the Memphis burger our waiter told us was popular. We didn't realize it was a large double burger, so after our surprise that many people order this, I cut it in half and gave the larger half to my partner. It was okay considering the huge world of burger competition out there large and small. The two thin burgers were well done and freshly grilled; comes with cheese, bacon, fried onions, sauce, lettuce and tomato.

The catfish was okay. It looked like heavily coated pre-made fresh or frozen pieces fried in a basket in hot oil. Nothing of note, really. The wings were the best of the three dishes. A good size, decent sauce and cooked properly. Standard French fries came with each dinner though I had asked for the sweet potato fries. We didn't have room for them anyway. Coleslaw accompanied the catfish.
