It is quite a shame that a place like this doesn't seem to know how table reservations work. I made a reservation for two persons, preferably at the window, and was given a confirmation that it would be taken care of.
When we arrived, the waitress took a look at the reservation book, mumbled something I didn't quite catch before leading us to a totally random table, saying that we could "for example have this one, this is a table for two." By all means - this is not how it works. We saw that no reservation had actually been made and considering the place was quite empty, a table at the window should not have been a problem. Having expensive dishes really doesn't mean much if you can't handle the basics or restauration.
We decided to take our money elsewhere and got a much better table in the restaurant right next door. At least, the service was great there and I know for a fact that they can handle reservations. Café Truffe however can not and we probably won't come back.
EDIT: Some friends actually convinced me to give it a chance. This place has the worst service I've experienced in Tartu. First of all: the place wasn't that crowded - especially compared to the other places on the town square. The food came way before the drinks (and we really didn't order anything special.) The ice cream cocktail I ordered was WARM. A warm ice cream cocktail, that was a new one (not a good one though) and don't get me started about the prices. My partner and I only had snacks and a drink each - I paid more than for a whole meal of the same quality in other places in Tartu. The six of us definitely won't come back here, we all agreed that the service and the quality were horrible for the...
Read moreI used to love this place, the food was always great. We visited on a Sunday night a week ago, after a very busy day it seemed. The server brought cutlery before she brought our drinks, she brought bread after we asked for it, to accompany one of the starters we ordered ( that didn't come with bread). Otherwise she was quick, professional and friendly. The food was very different- head chef has changed. It seems he likes to make thing a little bit different and not in a good way in our minds. We ordered duck tacos and both soups. The soups were good. Duck tacos weren't tacos, it was just tortillas stuffed with shredded duck. Tacos are supposed to be hard and have a certain shape. It was a cold starter, it would have tasted so much better warm. I asked the server she confirmed that it's meant to be cold. If you have tacos written in the menu, I expect tacos. As main courses we had filet mignon, the duck and the seafood pasta. Filet mignon meat was great, cooked perfectly, but the cold sauce did not go with it very well. A simple peppercorn sauce would have been so much better in my mind. The duck with egg noodles and some sort of tomato salsa, it just didn't mix well. And the egg noodles did not seem to be egg noodles, just plain noodles. Duckleg itself was very overcooked. Carrot crisps were really nice, although could not figure out why they were on there, they just seemed odd on top of the food. The seafood pasta was good. Could not try the desserts, because the kitchen had closed for the night. The food this time was not great and I used to love the food there. I'll be waiting for the autumn menu, maybe it would be better that...
Read moreI sat myself after asking, and ordered quickly. Pork Schnitzel with a glass pf Pinot Grigio and a bottle of Rose tonic water. I was very disappointed with the portion size and the Pork schnitzel was not seasoned. After serving me I never saw the waitress again who was busy chatting with her friends at a table. The other waitress was polite and took the complaint but there was no offer of any result of that complaint, just "I'm sorry you weren't satisfie". I was going to have dessert but didn't bother as the waitress never came back to ask. I left half full but 20 Euros lighter in 30 minutes. I would eat somewhere else if you're looking. As a travel writer I can only give them 2/10 and no recommendation. I bought dessert somewhere else and got a...
