We had an absolute blast in Pompei!
We were a group of 7 people and we came for dinner 20/06. We never got dinner, we got an experience.
It starts from the first second you walk in the restaurant: warm smiles, awesome music, great ambience and an epic square table for us all to fit, see each other and share the food. We had Pompei’s set menu and the price-quality balance is excellent. The dishes smelled, looked and were crafted exceptionally. The set menu had many variations of tastes, awesome surprises and treats, meat and fish, salty and sweet. The service was awesome! You can see how the team is calibrated and supports each other like a fine clock-work. The water arrived seconds after we sat down. Welcome drinks came shortly after and just when you thought that you are ready to get something in your belly, the focaccia was on the table. Our server had a great knowledge about everything we were served and he was very open to ask if our questions got quite specific (which they totally did). We were taken care of, we were welcome, we were part of this restaurant. The buzzing kitchen, awesome vibes, great music, friendly staff, great light. We came for dinner, but we got the experience. Thank you very much for the team, who were flexible to receive and take good care of us. Thank you for an excellently crafted menu.
Pompei meeskond, aitäh Teile! Te olete osa millestki väga võrratust. Kindlalt tulen tagasi, kindlalt soovitan...
Read moreThe waiters have always been really attentive. My past visits have included great culinary experiences as well, but this time the food was a let down. Pasta with mushrooms was tasty, but can't be considered truly amazing. It was really good, though. My husband ate pasta with beef ragout which was a bit too salty, but otherwise a bit lacking in flavours. We also tried the salad leaf appetizer which sounded interesting, but was a total disappointment. I don't think I've ever had anything quite as bad before except maybe an experiment or two in the kitchen by my 10-year-old son that went really wrong. As to the ambience - everything was fine until a guy started yelling and "performing" on the street just across the restaurant. That totally ruined the atmosphere. Unfortunately, from what we could hear and see, this performance tends to be a regular thing during summer. I get it that they can't really do much about it, but it still cut our visit short. So all together I'd say that the food was too expensive for the quality offered and the atmosphere was questionable. The service was the only positive thing this time and if I considered it one of my favourite restaurants in Tartu before this visit then I really don't think I want to be going back there any time soon...
Read moreBeen there before and had a good experience, also some friends have said good things about this place. First glance at the menu whilst booking assured me that there were few plant based dishes and vegans could find something to eat too. After all, it is 2022. So when we arrived we asked our lovely waitress to explain what could we have from the menu as nothing was marked separately (at the moment it seems that usually gluten and lactose free and vegan items are marked in menus). She pointed out some main and side dishes, all of them had something like ndjua, lardo or bernaise that wasn't vegan, but we asked whether those could be left out. It was a busy Friday night so some time had passed when she finally got back to us and started explaining that everything had some non-vegan ingredients.... Basically we could have olives and potatoes if I remember right. I have not seen such inability to accommodate or be flexible towards vegans for a long time, even in Estonia. Waitress tried to be lovely, but I felt the message from the kitchen was "get those vegans out and fast". I eat out a lot and my friend works in an industry so in comparison to other places inability to accommodate was...
