koduKOHVIK — Restaurant in Viljandi linn

It was a hard decision with this place. It's a nice place and service was excellent BUT the food sadly didn't live up to the expectations and prices. We were a group of 4 and 3 of us ordered beef picanha and 1 duck confit. Every piece of beef was cooked like we asked. But then there was salt on top of the sliced beef. I like salty things but after eating half of the beef the salt was too overpowering. Romaine lettuce on the side of the beef was cooked nicely but soaked in oil/butter. After eating, the mouth and lips were covered in oil and that wasn't a pleasant feeling. All 3 picanha eaters agreed with the over saltiness and oiliness of lettuce. I tried to combine things on the plate to cut the saltiness and oil but couldn't find a good balance. If the salt would have been on the side, the dish would have been much better. Client could dip in the salt as much they wish. Duck confit wasn't also perfect....it was okay but nothing special. Meat was a little bit dry and under seasoned. Mashed potatoes on the side were again over salted. Even combining potatoes and duck, it didn't feel very good. Sad to say but buying ready made duck confit from the shop has been sometimes better than this one. Time for dessert, we took 3 warm apple pies with ice cream. When ordering apple pie you should feel the apples but with this one we could only taste the dough.....dry and overcooked (?) dough. Yes there were some apple pieces in the middle but too few! Only thing helping to eat the dough was the small scoop of ice cream on top. And again, the dessert should be sweet, but with this pie the dough was kind of salty...or some kind of taste wasn't very enjoyable. Eating the edges first and leaving the middle part with the apples for the last bite was only good moment sadly. Overall, considering the prices and other reviews I was expecting a fantastic taste experience, but sadly had to be...

If you’re in Viljandi and haven’t been to Kodukohvik, you’re genuinely missing out. This place isn’t just the best café in town – it’s the best restaurant overall. Period.

The breakfast here is simply excellent. Whether you’re starting your day slow or grabbing something on the go, it’s always fresh, delicious, and made with care. It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you want to become a regular.

The à la carte menu is just as strong being thoughtful, seasonal, and seriously satisfying. You can come here for a relaxed lunch or a more special dinner and be confident that whatever you choose will hit the mark. Every dish feels intentional and well-executed.

They also serve great cocktails, which is a rare find in Viljandi. Balanced, creative, and clearly made by someone who knows what they’re doing. It’s not just an afterthought on the menu but it’s part of the full experience.

But the biggest standout? The service. Friendly, welcoming, and consistently professional. This level of service is almost impossible to find in Viljandi and this is what truly sets Kodukohvik apart. You feel genuinely taken care of here, not just...

What a wonderful discovery my partner and I made when we came across Kodukohvik yesterday (8 October) here in Viljandi, and had the best meal we've had thus far in Estonia! The fare was outstanding: both of us had the pork schnitzel that came with wedge potatoes and other trimmings, including some amazing homemade bread. Clearly the chef must have been a real Masterchef! I would hasten to add that the quantity fully matched the quality, leaving us completely satiated at the end. The service, too, was sterling: the women who served us were polite, efficient, obliging and caring. They wanted to be sure that everything was perfect and that we were fully satisfied with our orders. The ambience was especially tasteful and cozy, as a result of which we felt that we were at home. In fact, the experience was so outstanding that we returned today (9 October) for another round! Once again I had the pork schnitzel while my partner had the white fish. We also had good, strong coffee afterwards.

I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone...
