Splendid historical coffee house and tea room is finally painstakingly renovated.
Helmi means Pearl in finnish language and a rare beauty this place truly is.
The building dates way back to 1839. It has a long and even important history which includes restaurateur Cajsa Wahllund (1771-1843) who had this wooden house built.
Finnish national hero Mannerheim and statesman Snellman also have meticulously restored "snugs" in the building.
Ceramic stoves are wonderful and worth admiration.
Airi Kallio, conservation and restoration painter master and the owner of Cajsan Helmi, and his sons have made this miracle happen. Her son Ville is also pastry chef.
Cakes are mouthwateringly good ( on the opening day 11.1.2024 I had strawberry cranberry cake 🍰😋 and my friend had orange mascarpone cake. Both delicious.)
Coffee was also good and you can enjoy it from old fashioned porcelain cup. ( you can refill your cup)
Savory pies and open sandwiches looked very tempting and sumptuous. Next time I might have also one of those.
There is bubbly 🍾 🥂 available. It goes well with the romantic and festive yet cosy atmosphere of this coffee house & tea room. Tea selection is very good also as the lady who owns the place loves tea. Her son Leo blends the teas himself. So surely your taste buds will be pampered.
Working with the laptop is not appropriate here as you are invited to fully experience the 19th century atmosphere and decor, enjoy good company and mouthwatering cakes and savory dishes.
The staff is attentive and friendly. All tip top.
If visiting Helsinki don't miss this place which is just a little walk away from the east side of The Main Railwaystation.
At the moment the park around Cajsan Helmi is still under construction and for example the stairs of the entrance are temporary and the access for disabled customers is behind the building.
But in the beginning of summer all the outdoors construction should be done by the City of Helsinki. Supposedly there will be a lovely summer terrace also.
And as the owner Airi Kallio has said: "Back to nature!" During all four seasons you will be able to admire the Kaisaniemi parks trees and lawns through the numerous windows.
For me the visit was unforgettable. I hope you will have as pleasant...
Read moreAfter reading recently published articles about this legendary place I was curious and ready to explore. As a result I was met with a great disappointment. The food is medicore at best, the place echoes - giving an impression of a canteen rather a place with a story. There is an eclectic mix of used furniture, that is ruining the mood, synthetic table cloths, fake candles and a creepy mannequin in the middle of the main room. I understand this was a difficult and costly project, but I am not sure will it deliver what it was suppose to. After the opening it does not deserve any higher note than...
Read moreWide variety tea house with delicious savory and sweet snacks. Atmosphere from an old french movie, due to background music playing at the time of our visit. Very nice decorations to support the historic building. Recommend visiting here for an afternoon tea moment. EDIT 10/2025: We visited again and this time took the afternoon tea special service. It was very filling so I recommend to go in hungry. The absolute favourite was the cabbage galette, it was the best of all offered, and may sound weird for afternoon tea but really was perfection. Best gabbage dish I have...
