A nice Australian themed gastro pub in the close proximity of Helsinki central railway station. Beer, sports and good selection of various liquid and solid beverages. Prices in generally are higher than average but sometimes you might get really good offers. Location of this establishment is just superb if you're using communal or public transportation.
This is an Australian themed pub/bar which isn't too bad actually. Menu price to quality is ok in some parts and on certain days it's superb. There are couple #vegetarian options here and even a #vegan option which was a surprise for me personally.
There are some truly special offers when you're visiting here certain days and hours of the week. E.g. Monday and Tuesday are days when you have seriously good offers from afterwork burgers and steaks. Check their website for more detailed menu offers - it's on the second page of their PDF menu which is in English.
Atmosphere is cozy and there's plenty of room for even bigger groups. And place can be reserved for even remarkably big group.
Service was really friendly and laidback just the way I appreciate it. Nothing to complain there really. Sometimes it was in native English and sometimes in Finnish. So don't be surprised of that. But for foreign visitors - everybody speaks perfect English here.
Typical customers seem to be young adults that have more money to spend. And customers are mainly men I think it's because there seem to be a bit more meatlover oriented menu with heavy toppings. You can get lighter solid beverage options too.
In generally I could say that this is a good place to visit. It's a bit noisy sometimes especially weekend when this place is packed. Otherwise recommend but this isn't exactly my favourite kind of experience because I don't...
Read moreTL;DR: Mondays to Wednesdays you can buy a gourmet burger or rump steak meal for €13. Best deal you can find amongst 98% of restaurants in Helsinki.
I only have experience with their burgers and steaks. I can highly recommend their burgers for the people who like traditional big beef burgers without a ton of mayonaise and sauce. However, if you prefer smash burgers with a ton of mayonaise, go to NGHTY BRGR instead, and good luck with your indigestion later in the evening. Woolshed burgers have traditional thick patties, made with structure and a little redness on the inside. Toppings are not overloaded to take away from the beef taste. Their Blue Mountain and Johannesburg burgers are the best. Also, from Monday to Wednesday all their burgers are 13 euros, with fries and salad included in that price. Or you can spend 20+ euros at Naughty Burger for indigestion, up to you.
If you're looking for a steak, you have few options in Helsinki. For example, you can head over to your nearest Fat Lizard restaurant and pay 35 euros for a subpar sirloin. Or you can head over to Woolshed from Monday to Wednesday and pay 13 euros for a rump steak. While the rump steak is not as tender as a striploin, or ribeye, for 13 euros and when made medium rare it is well worth the money (roughly same quality as a sirloin). They also offer the choice of potatoes/fries and vegetables/salad, included in the price. The red wine dipping sauce is the best with the rump steak, in my opinion.
Thursdays all meals are 20% off, so it is a good time to try their ribeye. I have tried it, it was good, a nice change from all the entrecotes you find in Helsinki. Other days the prices for the rump steak and burgers are as on the menu (between 17 to 20 euros). Either way, give this...
Read moreWe went in after seeing so many glowing reviews. The place was packed, with a long queue to order. At the front, 2 women were sitting at a table with at least 6 menus between them. We politely asked if we could take one, provided they weren’t expecting more people.
What we got in return was a super rude response . Classic “Karen” energy, seemingly for no reason other than that we are brown. To be clear, we didn’t grab the menu, we only asked.
We walked out without ordering. The crowd seemed to be mostly students and Australians, which might explain the high ratings. Perhaps the food is good, but we’ll never know. For us, the atmosphere felt chaotic, unwelcoming, and not worth it.
The business has responded, so I’d like to clarify my review. As someone who works in online reputation management, I strongly advise against ever asking a customer to remove their review. That practice is called review gating, and Google explicitly discourages it. Instead, here are two simple steps that could help avoid situations like this in the future: a. Place menus at the entrance so guests can browse them while waiting in line. Many Helsinki pubs do this, and it speeds up ordering. b. Improve queue management. On my visit, there was only one bartender handling everything. If even one more staff member had been present, we would never have approached another guest’s table.
Helsinki is a warm, multicultural city. I hope the business considers these suggestions to make its atmosphere more inviting, reflecting the hospitality this city...
