The restaurant claims to have opened in 1966, however I see this is false because the Ode to Joy was written long before then, which was clearly written about this place! Wow! What a meal! I opted for the Kuu menu, which came with a 4 course dinner featuring some proper Finnish fare. The salmon soup was dreamy and creamy, with the lovely smoked salmon falling apart in your mouth and the soup complimented it perfectly. For my main I had the reindeer, and wow! It was honest to God the best thing I have ate in my life. Soft and tender with lovely mashed potato to accompany it. And I must mention the sauce! Berry and wine sauce pairs perfectly with reindeer! The cheese course was a delighful berry jam with brie from a local cheesery and was served with a lovely fragrant cracker, although I had mine with the bread. For dessert I had a coffee and the chocolate cake, it went amazingly with the sorbet it was paired with and was a perfect way to wind down my meal. The place itself is laid back, fancy not stuffy with timely features that make you feel like you're dining out in the 60s, and I mean it in a good way! If you're in Helsinki then you simply must give this place some of your time if you're interested in fine Finnish dining.

Kuu is a top-notch a la carte restaurant that I had the pleasure of visiting, serving dishes deeply rooted in Finnish flavors. The restaurant boasts a simple yet incredibly elegant and cozy decor. Accompanied by a friend, we were thoroughly delighted with our experience here. Despite the bustling crowd that day, the staff were exceptionally professional and promptly attended to our needs. For starters, we ordered the traditional smoked salmon soup (complemented with bread, a delightful prelude), followed by the Pork Cheek with Savoy Cabbage and dark horseradish sauce, and the Reindeer with blackcurrant sauce as our main courses. The flavors were exquisite, the accompanying sauces were tantalizing, and they encapsulated the essence of Finland. My friend particularly adored the reindeer meat; it was his first encounter with such delicious reindeer meat in Finland! While the prices were on the higher side, they were completely justified by the quality of the dishes. Delicious food, a cozy ambiance, and professional service culminated in a perfect dining experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this establishment and will undoubtedly recommend it to many friends in the future.

Not my personal preference however I can say they are absolutely great at what they do. The service was imppecable however the food was not amazing to me. My Finland trip was based around this restaurant and having a Finnish food experience. I arrive for my 9pm booking on a Saturday and was seated by the kind, attentive waitress. I must say the service here was second to none. I ordered the beef carpaccio for starters and beef cheek with summer vegetables. Prior to the start of the meal, I presented with a bread basket with 3 slices of bread baked in house with butter topped sea salt, which were delightful. So much so, that I asked for a second bread basket during the course of my meal. Between my started and mains, I was not amazed or raved to give this as a suggestion to friends. The mix of flavours different flavours presented in each dish were quite good and the mains were perfectly cooked with the pork cheek being extremely tender but I felt like it was missing something. I would not say this was a bad experience at all, it was a really good experience but the food did not amaze me.

Excellent Finnish restaurant with innovative dishes N60°10'48.5 E024°55'31.0 Behind the Crowne Plaza Helsinki hotel on Mannerheimintie, this restaurant offers a choice for both traditional and modern Finnish dishes. The interior is classic. During our visit in May 2018, the restaurant quickly filled up. It is better to make a reservation. Our waiter with a heavy voice and black gloves explained the menu. We ordered pikeperch with white asparagus and smoked fish and butter emulsion sauce (€27) and reindeer fillet with celeriac purée, wild mushrooms and black currant sauce (€33). The wines were very expensive, but the Chablis Bievil 2016 (€11 per glass) and Ontanon reserva rioja (€11 per glass) tasted excellent with the food. The presentation of the main dishes was classic, but the flavours revealed a much more contemporary cooking style. Nice flavours and textures. Enjoyable. We concluded this excellent dinner with a selection of local farmhouse cheeses (€11). Kuu offers both traditional and modern Finnish dishes. We enjoyed the food and the service. Recommended.

I took my wife here for a relaxed dinner and I was not disappointed. Reservations are recommended as they have been a staple of Helsinki dining for nearly 60 years. Despite this, they do seat walk in diners and we were fortunate this evening. Prices are comparable to a similar dining experience in the USA. The fare is a delightful peek into the best of Scandinavian cuisine. I chose a glass of Riesling from the mosel region with the whitefish filet. The flavors were well balanced and a delight to my senses. The food and the ambiance filled my soul. My wife had the Lambkin meatballs, a bite of the meatballs with the sauce and mash potatoes were silky and compliment the dish with warm spice that was not overpowering. The pickles that accompanied her meal had a crispy snap and just the right amount of sourness. The house made bread is not to be missed. Desserts followed suit with the entrees, delightful, warm and inviting much like the city itself. Do not miss.

My partner brought me here on our first holiday together to Helsinki. This is a meal that will stay with me for a long time - every course is divine. We had the summer menu, featuring a reindeer tartare, a supplementary salmon soup, goose breast fillet with pea puree and broccolini, a Västerbotten amuse-bouche and what was essentially a deconstructed rhubarb cheesecake. What an incredible experience - every dish was delicately balanced in both texture and flavour, and really showcased the restaurant's innovative spirit and courage to mix strongly-flavoured fresh ingredients together to form something greater than the sum of its parts. The service is also top notch - our waitress was attentive and even offered substitutes when she learned that my partner was not a fan of strong cheesy flavours. We will certainly be making a visit to Helsinki again just for this restaurant - I can't recommend it highly enough! Thanks for the amazing meal!
