Restaurant Oiva — Restaurant in Helsinki sub-region

The restaurant is situated close to a metro station near downtown Helsinki. They have quite a large list of drinks and I had the chance to try their Saturday brunch as well. The reason why I am giving four stars is that overall we had a good time with my friends. I took one star for the following reasons: the restaurant has a very tight arrangement of tables and chairs so it is quite troublesome to get around with a cane or with children while simultaneously you feel like you're intruding or eavesdropping on the conversation right beside your table. Sacrificing a few guest numbers would make a great QoL change that would provide a more comfortable and convenient dining experience. for the price we payed for the Saturday brunch, I expected to have better quality cheese for my breakfast. It tasted like the ones you get from Lidl. since the restaurant is situated in Finland, Helsinki, very close to a local meat market, one would think they have fresh salmon or hams, salamies in general. The salmon tasted frozen, which was a disappointment for me (again, considering the price of the brunch). I understand that the dessert table needs to have fruit cakes, but it would be nice to have something else too.

Overall we had a good time but the crowded and packed feeling and these small food related notes hindered...

A traditional bar/restaurant at the heart of Kallio. Atmosphere and milieu is just grand here.

I've been visiting and revisiting this establishment for many years. I like it but not from the price to quality point of view. I enjoy their atmosphere and milieu which both are grand among all the bars in Helsinki. Prices here are a bit to the expensive side from the menu and other things you can buy here. This venue isn't terribly expensive but I want it a bit better.

The history of this establishment is just amazingly vivid and grand. It's one of the oldest bars in Kallio making it just grand because of this. It's also one of the biggest.

They're famous among performing artists and other similar talents. This place is worth visiting when you're looking for good service and enjoyable evening. Nowadays you can order food late at night too so not only during lunchtime.

If you're looking for traditional bar with great milieu and need room for your group then this establishment is one of those...

I have a lunch here very often. It is a buffet with soup of the day, good selection of salad, 3 main courses, coffee and very often a dessert. Food remains me of home made meets lumberjack. The selection is not for everybody: if you are a baby mouth, this is not for You. Very often all the 3 mains are something that I really like, one is vege but not vegan. Sometimes they even serve more rare choices like fried liver, fried muikku (google that), mushrooms, mustamakkara. Usually more regular (adult) stuff like meatballs, meatloaf, lasagne, schnitzel, goulash, fried fish. Maybe not light but You are the one who is doing the plating... ...the kind of food that lures construction workers even from a distance.

The restaurant is old and it shows. The name is even mentioned in a pop song situated in Kallio...
