St. Urho's Pub — Restaurant in Helsinki sub-region

Excellent service and selection of liquid beverages paired with a sturdy attitude and tremendous bar food is the key points of this bar.

I've been visiting and revisiting this place for several years now and I must admit that it's still one of my personal favorite bars in Helsinki. The downside of this place is the hefty amount of money that you need to spend here if you want to consume liquid beverages or stationary nutritive substances.

This place has a challenging price segment for its products which is a shame because I really would like to spend more time here with people but I feel shamed not to order anything. I can't recommend this place for everyone simply because of this immense price segment that will inevitably select people who will be here.

This establishment doesn't have bar music which is superb if you want to have a decent conversation with your friends or foes. However occasionally this place gets a bit packed of human beings and it's quite hard to have a conversation here when...

Why were we in an English Pub, in Helsinki??? Blame our co-travelers. Still, I really enjoyed the excellent bartender behind the taps, who let me taste a few beers, recommended some good choices, and acurately recalled my preferences when I wanted another beer. My friend's overcooked fish and greasy chips (17£) were underwhelming, but the others were very happy with burgers (16£) that were too big to take a bite out of. I splurged on the fried arctic char (25£) and it was absolutely worth it. Very lightly fried, crispy skin with perfectly NOT overcooked fish inside, a nice selection of NOT overcooked vegetables - so, not an authentic English pub experience :) - with a savory sauce of smoked mussels. I also tried a couple hoppy taps, which were nice. A pub is a pub, and this is a pub, so 4 stars for lame fish & chips but otherwise a nice pub. Friendly, good acoustics (not too loud), and wow,...

The friend I was staying with said I have to try Sahti, and this is one of the few places in Helsinki that serves it. Sahti is an old style beer, very few hops, with a malty sweetness, like a barley wine, 7.5% abv. Sahti is not for everyone, but I rather like it. And so did most in our party, but not Jane.
