Really great thai restaurant. It's quite small and often crowded because of its popularity. It's clean and simplistic restaurant for common people that want a tad better experience for dinner or lunch.
This is one of my personal favorites among all thai restaurants in Helsinki. They have good options for no matter what your dietary is.
Lunch buffet price is circa 10 Euros which is superb among all thai restaurants in Helsinki. Lunch time is from 11am to 3pm.
À la carte price to quality is a bit better than ok but not great. They have great setting when they serve their solid nourishment portions and size is big for small sized person. Main course portions cost somewhere between 11 to 16 Euros depending which protein source you want it to have. Spiciness of their food is great and options for not so spicy food are also good. If you're a chilihead you might end up being a bit disappointed here. They serve alcohol too which is great but choices are only regular lager beer, long drink or cider with bad price to quality.
Atmosphere is warm and cozy here and service is friendly. They don't have much places to sit down only about 12 if you don't count the "thai balcony" where they used to have a table too. I think it was a bit challenging for common people to sit down on the floor so they don't seem to use it anymore. This place is often quite packed which is a mark of healthy business.
I strongly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a bit better thai restaurant which isn't going to kill your budget. Just prepare yourself for the fact that you might not fit inside here if you are planning to visit here without...
Read moreTuk Tuk used to be my favorite restaurant on Vaasankatu in Helsinki. I've always believed in supporting migrant-run businesses, so I frequently brought friends there. However, my recent experiences have been disheartening, particularly due to discriminatory behavior from a specific staff member.
During my first unsettling encounter with this waitress, she spoke rudely, but I dismissed it as a one-off incident. Sadly, it wasn't. On a subsequent visit with an Asian friend and my partner, her demeanor was starkly different towards us compared to her exaggerated politeness towards white patrons. At one point, while we were conversing, she abruptly told us to be quiet to accommodate two new white customers.
The most distressing incident occurred when I didn't finish my meal and requested to take the leftover rice home. Her refusal was not only illogical but also delivered in a demeaning tone that completely disrupted the welcoming atmosphere one expects in a restaurant. This 'no leftovers' rule was neither stated anywhere nor explained reasonably, making the situation even more frustrating.
I urge people of color to be cautious about patronizing Tuk Tuk. It's tragic that such discrimination exists, particularly in a space run by migrants that should understand the value of...
Read moreI ordered Phad Kii Mau with shrimps and Som Tam papaya salad. I was expecting bigger shrimps but this is quite okay. They were both very spicy but I could still handle it 😆 (I ordered medium spicy, so keep in mind if you're not a spicy food fan).
People were right about food here taste salty, it's right. The somtam salad was pretty more salty than other places I'd tried, but the sauce was mixed well into the salad (I appreciated that). Phad Kii Mau was also a bit salty but not too much. It'd be nice if the chef could season his food a bit less salty, everything would be perfect 😁 Nice plate presentation though.
The day I came there were a very nice Thai waitress. She was super friendly and polite. I like the way she greeted people and had funny chatting with them. That's a big plus!!! 😊
I'd like to visit again if I came over...
