If you truly want to experience the essence of Vasa, this is the place to be. This second-generation, family-owned restaurant is set in a meticulously restored historical pavilion, nestled in a lush, verdant park by the inner harbor. With views of sailboats gliding by and the relaxed atmosphere of passersby, you can truly feel the spirit of Vasa. Sipping cider on the terrace while listening to a troubadour and watching the sun slowly set over the ocean is the epitome of summer in Finland and Vasa.

The ambiance here is unique, seamlessly blending the timeless charm of old Vasa with the vibrant energy of its modern counterpart. The lunch offering is arguably the best deal in town. We enjoyed a full lunch, which included an extensive and varied salad buffet with a wide array of salads, olives, couscous, bread spreads, and more. The mains on the day of our visit featured options like salmon with apple cider cream sauce and slow-roasted beef with Béarnaise sauce, accompanied by creamy potatoes, potato wedges, and a selection of vegetables. The chef personally serves the proteins, while you can help yourself to the sides, allowing you to tailor your portion size to your preference. There were also salmon soup and vegetarian options available. The meal concluded with coffee or tea and some Fazer Blue chocolates, all for the remarkably reasonable price of €14.50—about what you’d spend on a coffee and pastry elsewhere. It was, without a doubt, the best food we tasted during my month-long exploration of the area’s restaurants.

The service was efficient, attentive, and warm. With 25 years of experience in luxury hospitality, I can confidently say that the staff here is exceptionally professional. I was thoroughly impressed. Vasa is truly fortunate to have this gem—not only as a showcase of culinary excellence but also as a cultural beacon, bridging the history of the old Vasa dance pavilion with the vibrant cultural scene of today. Regular Strampen customer and have always had a great 10/10 experience unfortunately not this time. Waited over 1 hour from when food was ordered until it was delivered to the table, Waiter came to the table after 40 minutes and explained there was an issue and food is on the way. 30 minutes later it arrived, Completely cold followed by the same order again. Advised by the waiter one main course would be deducted from the bill. It took 3 waiters 30 minutes to bring the bill to the table and no main course was deducted. Food great as usual but terrible 2.5 hour experience watching waiters and other people enjoy...

We had a quick walk in dinner without reservation, but the waitress found a table for us even though it seemed like the restaurant was full. It also seemed like we got the best table of the restaurant with a view over the sea, which was 👌

The menu items might not read like anything special, but we were presented with beautifully prepared portions that tasted fantastic. We couldn't be more happy with our dinner!

To make things even better, our server made our stay feel very welcomed with swift service and nice recommendations.
