We stayed here for the 2nd time, in a standard room, first time being 10 years ago when this hotel was truly upmarket, when the food was of a much higher standard and the clientele was still British but mostly couples or families with teenage children. This time around, the chaos reigned: small children were running a-mock, the food was mostly disappointing (we were served rancid foie gras!) and the service was shambolic! The bar staff need to brush up on cocktail ingredients and learn some barista skills. It’s incomprehensible that in the middle of the French Alps the bar staff doesn’t know how to make a pot of cafetière or Negroni (it was so watery due to lack of gin). The food at breakfast was good with only one off-day when we were serve inedible omelettes. The best service in the hotel was provided by the ski shop, who’d bring you your ski boots and skies and put them back away the end of the day. The reception team were polite and helpful but most of the waiting staff were gap year like students. Location is still the highlight feature of the hotel and if the cocktails were up to the scratch, the hotel terrace and live bands would have given us a great apre ski moment .

The restaurant, Cucina Angelina, is an excellent tasting experience. The menu is rich, moving from italian cuisine to French traditional meals. Quality of the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. The wine list is equally reach and the somelier gives good advises (although he could have a slightly warmer approach). It a very cosy place and the staff is welcoming. We go for dinner every year and we are amazed every time by the quality of what we have in the plate, by the service and, generally, by the cosiness of the place.

Went to their restaurant, Cucina Angelica. Had a worst carpacio ever. Sea bass carpaccio was not served at the right temperature, pretty warm and the worst thing is that i smelled some chlorine in fish (probably they had fish in a tank so long). Pasta was alright, just ordinary. Pasta was too soft and the portion was too much for a dish in fine dining.

The Portetta is actually that rather rare thing: an extraordinarily well-run hotel. Full disclosure here. We are regular guests and have been returning, as many, many others do, at least once, often twice, a season for the last seven or eight years, including, quite miraculously, during the pandemic. The reasons we keep going back are manifold but obvious.||Superb location, metres away from the Ariondaz bubble in Courchevel 1650 Moriond. Friendly and very well-run ski room, with a wide range of the latest equipment for skiers of all levels. Super comfy and practical bedrooms, with plenty of often overlooked storage space. Top of the range linen, including high thread count bed sheets and luxurious towels. Plentiful hot water at key junctures of the day with excellent water pressure – not always a given in ski hotels! Faultless, and always friendly, housekeeping. ||These may be the basics but they are fundamental to the success of any such establishment and, in all our years of visiting, we have never known the Portetta to get them wrong.||Unsurprisingly, the Portetta is a very popular Three Valleys location, with its buzzy outdoor terrace and justly renowned rustic Italian restaurant, ‘Cucina Angelina’ by Angela Hartnett. Even residents must ensure they reserve a table. The cosy, traditionally decorated, salon is, however, for hotel guests only and serves a huge range of drinks including well-executed cocktails and delicious hot chocolates all day. ||As with any great hotel, the backbone of its success is the staff. The Portetta runs on the infectious energy of a mainly very young team of bilingual 20-somethings, for whom nothing is too much trouble. The reception/front of house team are warm, welcoming, professional and somehow able to magically resolve any challenge, be it a complex room combination, a simple ski pass or a coveted terrace table at any number of Courchevel’s lauded mountain restaurants. ||This seamless hospitality is quietly and adroitly orchestrated by the always affable and accessible Portetta manager, Nicolas, who is frequently to be found making his rounds of the terrace and the salon in a rotating selection of very singular sweaters. The festive season at the Portetta is particularly special with the staff and the kitchen team pulling out all the stops to help the guests, and particularly the many young families, celebrate Xmas and New Year in style.||Be warned: you need to book early! Very highly...

We had a phenomenal time staying for 2 weeks in this lovely hotel situated in Courchevel Moriond 1650. It is a ski-in ski-out so location is very convenient and just a few minutes walk to the free shuttle that takes you around the other villages. It is also walking distance from Aquamotion and all other shops. The interior is a rustic chalet that provides a warm and cozy feel. Our room was the same. It had a balcony with a view of the mountains. The food, drinks and service at the restaurants were amazing. They have the best burgers and pizzas and I also loved the special cocktails! What makes this hotel so special is its staff. Everyone was very well trained for their job and so friendly, helpful, courteous and welcoming. Matthias and his colleague at the ski-rental were the same. Very warm and helpful! Communication at the time of booking was excellent too and we were provided with everything we needed as well as other requests granted. They also surprised us with a Christmas basket filled with goodies on Christmas Day and helped us book restaurant reservations at 1850 and arranged taxis with so much ease. It was our first time in Courchevel and we were blown away by how friendly everyone were wherever we went! Unforgettable Christmas and we will surely be back next year! ||Just one room for improvement on the mode of payment during booking. It would had been better if the hotel could provide a secure payment link rather than paying by phone and giving all our credit...
