Amapola — Restaurant in Albi

Insanely good dinner tonight in Albi. Michelin-rated restaurant, Amapola. Good grief Michelin, it deserves ONE STAR minimum!!!!

Adventurous, creative, fusion food from a wife and husband team. WOW, we were blown away. I can definite see myself traveling here every three months for their new menu. We had half of it today, coming back Friday for the other half. Have I made it clear we LOVED IT?

The concept is fusion tapas with French, Latin American and Spanish influences and all dishes are meant to be shared.

We had 8 different dishes to share; Udon noodles in a lemon butter, pan con tomate, tempura veggies that were like biting into air, an insane scallop carpaccio, an insane shrimp roll that we scarfed down and forgot to photograph, 3 insane deserts including a blue cheese flan with salted caramel. It blew my mind!!

Just perfect. Everything you want in a restaurant - outstanding service, a thoughtful menu, lovely friendly atmosphere and absolutely exquisite food. A tiny neighbourhood hidden gem, tucked away and as good as it gets. We love sharing small plates (I am vegetarian and my husband eats everything) and there were so many choices for us both - I wish we could have tried everything on the menu but the highlights were the burrata (never had anything like it), the polenta chips (oh thaaaat's what polenta is supposed to be) and the extraordinary wasabi, cucumber and strawberry pavlova. Exceptional food and exceptional people. This is where I bring family and friends who visit the region. This is why we go out to eat, for an experience, an adventure, a moment where time stops because the food is just so damn good. This is the kind of place where even every sauce is super balanced and interesting, you just have to soak up every drop. It's my favorite place to eat out in case you couldn't tell by now.
