Traveling not only leads to discovering new places but also meeting new and interesting locals. While in Annecy, France, we ate at Shiva Indian restaurant. A super elegant place seemingly run by an “Indian” family. The uncle and aunty running the restaurant while their daughter (mid to late 20’s) served as the hostess, server, & bartender. As it turns out it’s actually a Sri Lankan restaurant. The uncle and aunty (pregnant w their daughter) escaped Sri Lanka 30 years ago during the war. They ended up in Germany where the daughter was born. Due to the red tape associated with refugee laws, they bounced from country to country throughout Europe ultimately settling in Annecy. The daughter studied in France and Switzerland and did her masters in the UK, while the parents established the restaurant. She now works as an accountant in Geneva commuting from Annecy daily and helping her family w/ the restaurant evenings and weekends. Although they endured hardships beyond most of our comprehension, they were kind, humble, and welcoming. Read moreI had an absolutely delightful experience at Restaurant Shiva in Annecy, France about 40 mins from Geneva.
I was there with my son, and Skye, our GSD. They were nice to accommodate a large GSD. We were welcomed by the warm and inviting ambiance. The staff of the family run (I am guessing it) were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Each dish was bursting with authentic Indian flavors, perfectly spiced and beautifully presented. From the aromatic biryanis to the creamy curries and the delectable tandoori dishes, everything was a culinary masterpiece. The variety of vegetarian options was impressive, and they catered to my dietary preferences with ease. The salt lassi was the perfect accompaniment to my meal. We left the restaurant well satisfied and already planning our next visit. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine or want to explore its delicious flavors, I highly recommend this restaurant – a true gem that deserves all...

Salmon Tikka Masala - 8/10 absolutely loved it. I think I could have asked for it to be slightly more spicy but this was well cooked!
Garlic Chilli Naan - tastes good, I was expecting 2/3 per portion , but it isn’t. (Probably a good thing!)
Overall had a great experience, I see why this restaurant has the highest rating under Indian Cuisine.
‘Riz’ - rice with spices - I Asked for Jeera rice, the waiter did not understand so I went ahead with ordering Rice with spices. When it arrived, it had only Jeera and 1 bay leaf in. I was expecting a proper rice with spices (Jeera, Cardamon, Cinnamon stick, clove) but I guess it’s different standards/definitions in...
