Read moreAfter eating a dinner and lunch here, I was underwhelmed by the food and service and decor, which is probably gorgeous, to be fair, in the summertime. Sadly, the bread, olive oil (DELICIOUS), champagne, and red wine were the highlights. Fish, shrimp, lamb, were all decent and they accommodated my no-meat, only fish request for the tasting menu. The amuse bouche were tasty and a nice treat to kick off the meal.
First time eating at a Michelin starred restaurant where the waitstaff couldn't speak enough english , or seem to care that they couldn't speak enough english, to describe the dishes. I've been lucky enough to dine at a few around the world, including Noma, and can safely say La Cabro d'Or staff needs some additional hospitality training. At lunch, for example, they gave us the menu's and disappeared for 45 min. after serving our champagne. Nope - the restaurant was only 1/2 full. Upon the waiter's return, we were told we had old menus...as if this was our fault.
Plenty of other delicious options in Provence, so take...
Read moreWe have a house in St. Rémy and know the region well. Our take on the Cabro d'Or—Setting: beautiful. Service: professional. Menu Gourmandise at €90 looked promising—it is well paced, well portioned and well constructed. HOWEVER the chef has a heavy hand with sweetness. All subtlety of sauces is overriden by a pervasive sweetness. But for the cod which was excellent. ALSO the cheese plate is an embarrassment. Located in Provence, a region well known for delicious cheeses such as the Banon or tomme de Provence, yet #LaCabrodOr served ordinary supermarket level cheese. Very disappointing! Desserts are a +. Aubergine millefeuille is a true stroke of genius. The wine list (white) is limited to very local Vallée des Baux wines. Why not include some Luberon? Some more rare? Overall ok, but seems to cater to tourists unfamiliar with the region. Could be a true find, just needs...
