Adjust your expectations…downwards. We attended as a family with a 10 and 8 year old and 2 adults. Seated quickly. Before deciding on this restaurant we checked the reviews and yes, there were a few one stars but most seemed positive, so, you know, what are the chances? Firstly, and I cannot blame the restaurant for this but their children's menu is woeful, minced beef patty (a burger) with no bun (seriously, a bun is what a few cents) and chips and fish and chips are your two options, perhaps this is a place that wishes not to encourage families of smaller children. We ordered and in fairness received our food quickly. The fries were slightly over browned and neither the kids meals or the adult burger came with any salad, for 15 Euros for a kids meal and night on 19 for an adults burger you’d expect some of the green stuff. My adult burger (the same as my 8 year olds but with a bun and a gherkin, and a bit of cheese (i think), and a strip of bacon) was supposedly cooked medium and my son’s well done, to be honest, they looked and tasted both well done, why bother asking? Then came the disagreement with the man taking the orders over our kids meals, apparently we had asked for an adult fish and chips for our 10 year old.. Really, why would we ever do such a thing, both children were eager to get their crepes at the end which were underwhelming. Upon leaving the waitress pushed past my seat pushing me forward, which was very annoying. The bill I had to obtain from the till and they had adjusted the order correctly and also saw fit to add on a cost for a serving of mayonnaise for my chips…. What? At this price a smattering of mayo is not complementary to liven up the taste of the over browned frites? Shocking. However, like the title says, maybe this is a thing in France, and you should adjust your expectations accordingly. Needless to say, not again during our stay or for any recommendations. Overall this place is massively overpriced in my opinion and need to sort their menu out and show a little service skills, we knew the costs on entering but were expecting so much more than such basic food with poor hospitality. Make your own mind up, the fish and co place down the road was much nicer and a fraction...
Read moreTerrible!!!! Went for lunch with family (x5) at 12:45 We do not speak French, but always make an effort with the basics. The young waitress made no attempt to interact with us at all! We ordered drinks. After 12 mins we said to the waitress that we were ready to order our food. She ignored us and served the French couple near to us. After a further 3 minutes we asked the waitress if our drinks were coming. She completely ignored us. We surmised that she was partly under pressure from her boss to behave this way. Worth mentioning that the restaurant was not even half full. Truly not sure what we did to offend this restaurant, but after 20 mins, we quietly got up to leave. That took 8 minutes as we had a baby. I made sure I was the last of our party to leave to see if any effort would be made to sort our prompt exit. When realising that this would not come, I simply said ‘merci beaucoup’. This was also ignored. Cannot comment on the food or drink, the only thing we got was a baby seat!! Left our visit to Arromanches with a bad taste even after a great visit to the sites, shops & alternative restaurant. Fortunately we found a fantastic hotel/restaurant on the sea front ‘Hotel de la Marine’. Well recommended. Only regret other than walking in to start with was not asking what the problem was. There were 2 or 3 similar resturants along the street that looked very similar to ‘Bar du Six Juin’. Strongly suggest trying these...
Read moreFood overall was awful, and service was sub par. Server was rude, and understanding that some customs may be different (mixed party of Americans and Brits), but objectively we received terrible service and the server was rude. I am self aware enough to realize that we are in another country and do not speak the native language, but there should have been no problems communicating our simple orders, and the server would intermittently understand what we were saying depending on which time she came to the table. We were not loud or attracting attention to ourselves (I realize the stigma we may have), but the staff acted as if they were put out to assist us until the nice young lady who handled our check. The bad service could've been overcome by good food, but that was not the case; 5 people in our party ordered steak and they were all tough and rubbery. Perhaps they had a bad day when we decided to try them out, but there is a Michelin star restaurant down the road that we were going to try but they were not open yet. I would recommend trying them first, as the prices did not appear to be that drastically different based on the posted menus. I can't say I wouldn't recommend this place since it's only one visit and I'll never be back, but just wanted to make our...
