This place had a lot of 5-star reviews. I just don’t get it. I read the reviews, and it makes me feel like our experience was in Bizzaro land. The place has a charming look to it…but that’s where it ends.
We were greeted by what turned out to be one of the two servers for the entire restaurant (it seats at least 40). No host(ess). We got seated by her pointing to a small dining room with 3 tables for 2 and her saying take the first table. Ok fine no problem. Then, and I’m not exaggerating here, we sat for 25 minutes. Nothing, no water, no acknowledgement. If you are asking yourself, why didn’t they just get up and leave, yes, I am asking myself the same thing. They finally came to take our order and the vibe was just one of I don’t care.
This one is very weird: the music for the entire 2-hour dinner was The Doors. I like The Doors but not for a 2-hour meal. What a weird vibe. Oh, and one was a rap remix of a Doors song. I can’t tell if they were trying to be cool, edgy, or just didn’t care. Either way, not how you want to spend a meal.
Finally, the food. The bread was good and fresh, but I don’t know if it’s possible to find bad bread in France. The rest was just plan bad. The salad had no flavor and not enough dressing. The foie gras also had no flavor and a strange coating on the terrine that also….had no flavor. One main was a risotto but was in fact mac and cheese. No joking. The veal, you guessed it, had no flavor. For dessert we had the apple and chocolate. Both were…..yup flavorless. See a theme here? They never checked in, shoved the food in front of us, never asked if we wanted more drinks. I know the treatment wasn’t just us. There were 3 two-top tables in the room we were in. The other two got seated in 10 minute intervals after us got the exact same treatment.
There are other cute places with better food in town. Skip this one.
EDIT: I will let the owner's reply speak for itself and how he replies to a disappointed customer.
Reply from the owner:
Hello, I think you simply went to the wrong restaurant, my wife takes great care of the customers. Was everything tasteless? Are you used to eating fresh, homemade products? Our team arrives in the morning at 7:30 a.m. to prepare the set-up in the kitchen, all our products use its local organic French to the maximum. In fact, if you are used to eating products not made on site, there are plenty of other restaurants in town where you can have a great evening. Looking forward to not seeing...
Read moreSuch a disappointment. What should have been a nice evening at a highly recommended restaurant was instead an unpleasant evening. We arrived to find that we were seated in a small back room next to a table of 12. It was a bike tour group and while they were no louder than one might expect from a group of 12 people having fun, the room was not large enough to also accommodate 3 tables of two. We were unable to converse at all and asked to be moved but there were no other tables. The size of the table also meant that we waited a long time to order and be served. Our server was very good however and did her best to take care of us. One of us ordered steak as their main course and requested it “a point,” which is medium rare or often a bit rarer. The woman at the table next to us also ordered hers medium rare I. English. We both received steaks that were cooked closer to medium well. When our server came to check on us and I showed her the meat she insisted on taking it back to the kitchen. I did not request to send it back but agreed. The woman at the other table decided to keep hers. A minute or two later she returned with my plate and told us that the chef would remake it but we would have to pay for a second steak, and insisted that “a point” just meant a little pink, which is absolutely not true. I was rather shocked, our server seemed very embarrassed, and I accepted the overcooked meat. The evening was spoiled by the amateur operation of the restaurant. They are either a group tor restaurant with lower standards of food or a fine dining restaurant that values their customers and works to ensure they have a pleasant evening. Sadly, L’Angle Saint Laurent has chosen to...
Read moreWe were disappointed in our visit to L’Angle Saint Laurent. From the moment we arrived for our reservation, the service was less than stellar. We were quickly seated and then left without so much as another glance for about 20-25 minutes. When the very hurried woman came over to get our order, she proceeded to tell us we needed to order drinks, appetizers, meal and dessert at that moment. We both ordered a cocktail—which both were delicious, btw, and my husband told her we would like to order a bottle of wine for our dinner at a later time. That was a mistake. We never saw her again. We were delivered our various courses by different people, which were okay but definitely not Michelin-worthy, IMO. And we had several other dinners in Bayeux that were far superior in different restaurants. But mostly it was the poor service. They acted overwhelmed and rushed but it was a simple Friday evening. We both had tap water to drink with our entrees—which is fine but not what we intended. We were never able to order another drink and were completely ignored by the staff. We were both dressed appropriately—long summer dress for myself and husband in pants and button down. There was a rambunctious table near us that did not have any trouble getting served so possibly we should have been obnoxious? We both came away disappointed and I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. The chocolate and peanut butter dessert was...
