We are a group of 4 young professionals with international backgrounds (BE-RUS-CRO-VZLA). On our way back from Pointe du Hoc (very intriguing place) to our stay in Caen, we decided to make a stop in Bayeux for a nice, simple dinner. We saw this pizzeria and fancied the nice interior. However, there was not much else to like. We ordered some starters, 3 pizzas and the fish menu. The starters were not fresh, still filled with fish gratings (fish bones) and quite frankly, flavourless. (Frozen?[to us this was clear as day]) Next up were the main dishes (3pizzas and a fish dish). In short, none of us liked the food (how on earth can a "chef" overcook ALL three pizzas). The fish dish was frankly disgusting; clearly frozen and reheated). Based on these experiences and not a single empty plate on the table we informed the waiter that we would not be needing any dessert (which was part of the fish dish menu deal). Shortly thereafter we were informed that we would be charged the regular menu price for the fish and starters instead of the menu deal for which we opted (steep price difference to be noted here). After expressing our disconsent about this malpractice the owner grabbed me by my arm (even though I already gave him the money because we just wanted to get out of there), starting an altercation which lead to the owner almost hitting my girlfriend. We then said we wanted to call the police in order to sort this out and suddenly, we were 'allowed' to leave by the owner. NONE OF US have ever experienced such treatment ANYWHERE. For all reasons above, we wanted to rate the place at 0 stars - sadly not an option. A rightfully earned 1star goes out to le Marsala in Bayeux! Succesfully ruined our day and made my friend puke in the process, just an hour after having eaten there. As a final remark, the casual behaviour of the staff surrounding us and the owner's anger management issues leads us to believe this was not a stand-alone incident but rather a malpracticed routine at the establishment. 'Tread carefully', 'at own risk and perril' and 'try to avoid' are the correct taggs for this 'restaurant'. All the best, Pieter, Vanessa,...
Read moreA very very disappointing meal. Restaurant is ideally located in the heart of Bayeux, first impressions looked good with a friendly welcome from our waiter (lady). Menu looked OK with something for everyone, however out experience went down hill from there. Even though we arrived c6pm (start of service), the burrrata and tomato starter special (which the three of us were hoping to order) was already 'sold out'.. ordered tempura shrimp which was probably the worst bit of food I have had in a long time. Clearly straight out of a frozen bag, these prebattered bullets were just terrible. Chips with our main were soggy and clearly sitting around for a while. All I would say is that the person in charge / chef needs ro get far more excited about what they are doing.. zero passion / ambition / interest in turning out food to enjoy.. simple example.. Bread for the table clearly days old and stale, even though the best of French bread shops (all open) with 30 seconds from...
Read moreDisappointed. Tourist trap. Carbonara with a reasonable portion of spaghetti BUT poor quality of pork from supermarket or worse and the cream was like water. I could barely taste nothing. It's definitely the worst Carbonara I've ever eaten. Besides, the French fries were awfully dark brown. It'd been used for ages for sure 'cause it tasted bitter. My kids ate steak hache and fries. Steaks were dry and overcooked than we asked for. I told one of the staff about the fries and he didn't appreciate the feedback. Eventually I didn't continue giving feedback for helping and paid the bill which was worthless. The cook / cooks are worse than most housewives. I'll recommend L'assiette Normande, Insolite, Changhai if you're looking for somewhere to eat near the cathedral. You eat well that the food and quality worth more than you pay and the prices...
