We JUST arrived into town after a failed trip to Brugge, Belgium due to being squeezed out into the cold for not making proper eating reservations. We ate the cost of the 2nd night of the hotel, and continued on our journey because I refused to let my family suffer trying to find a warm restaurant for 2 days in Brugge. So, on a whim we headed down the coast to Normandy. We were turned away from La Marina at 2100 because they were closed, which is understandable however Maps said they were open until 2200, so my 5 year old and 2 year old and pregnant wife were once again let down. I'm failing as a leader and father at this point, so we jumped in the can and headed toward Bayeux on hopes and a prayer. I called one place, La Chateau and was hung up on. Then I called this place and the gentleman spoke English to me and told me to come through. We arrived and he (Jean) welcomed us in with open arms and played music for us on his piano! He cooked me a rare ribeye and a filet for my wife and gave my children hot potatoes and cheese! He was so friendly we were just blown away with this blessing. I highly recommend coming through here to be treated with such respect in a far away land from wherever you've come from. Jean saved our trip! If you can imagine the feelings associated with what we went through in Brugge, then the 8 hours it took to drive with the family and be turned away and hung up on, to land in this man's open arms. I will come through here every time I visit to pay homage to a man that owed us nothing and gave us so much. I should have taken a picture of the steak before I ate it, lol. Here's my empty plate after the ice cream and macaroons! Thank you Jean!!!! Will will have you over when you...
Read moreThis restaurant was a hit and miss. I am so surprised that the bad reviews gave them three stars. I had the sea and land starter comprising of fois gras, a salad, goat cheese ice cream and shrimp. The dressing on the salad tasted of a horseradish dressing which was too strong for ma taste. The rest of starter was okay. The rillettes de saumon (which is a salmon salad) was good. I had the lobster bouilabesse which consist of a baked lobster on the side which had no flavor and was undercooked and the bouilabesse which was too heavy creamed and tasted much like the veloutee de moules that my dining companion had. I had the apple tart which is seriously the worst apple tart I have ever seen. It was basically a crepe with a bunch of baked whole apples. The profiteroles was better which by the way is basically an eclair with ice cream inside. This place is a joke calling itself a restaurant gastronomique. It's...
Read moreThis restaurant gave us the most pleasant and fun experience of our time in France so far.
Unlike other posts, we walked in without a reservation. They were kind to take us in right as they opened at 7pm even though we were underdressed. The manager/musician suggested a nice wine from their “piano wine” selection. They were 21€ each. My party got all a sea food selection and the meal itself was delightful. Personally, I got the scallops, they were soft and had a nice zest to them in the sauce. The highlight of our evening was when they offered us a complimentary bottle of wine if someone could play on their piano in our party. None of us knew any actual songs but they were just pleased to have us learn and play a simple tune. The owner obviously wanted his guests to have a wonderful time and ended up providing us samples of Calvados and Absentee and talked to us often to entertain. We ended up spending about 2...
