Restaurant Le Corsaire — Restaurant in Bayonne

We didn’t expect to go here when in Biarritz as we were only in Biarritz for such a short time. But with a quick Google we noticed the high rating - WORTH IT.

The staff were friendly and very funny! You were made to feel like family and they were also insightful.

They had 2 huge paella pans on the go outside and so many people were ordering it. They were receiving huge servings and there were plenty of compliments around.

We decided to try something we’ve not had before - razor clams, whelks and hake (which I believe is a local fish?).

Loved the razor clams! The sauce was perfect and we were fighting over who got to mop up the last bit with the bread.

Was a very very long queue at restaurant next door, not sure why actually. We stopped by Le Corsaire with available table near the little arbor, with beautiful atmosphere and very kind staff. Large selection of fresh fish, they only serve what they have as fresh fish, if not from the day they don’t propose. I took the monkfish and my wife mussels, both were very good and perfectly served with fresh fries and vegetables. Prices are fair for quality. We were attracted by the reasonably high rating, but OMG how misleading it was. The starters of breaded calamari were large thick slices and bald of any breadcrumbs. The mussels were good, the sauce being quite creamy, but the accompanying fries seemed like the previous days leftovers reheated in hot oil. The sea bream was fried in too much oil.
