I visit Biarritz every year and come to this restaurant that I've grown to love. However, with each passing year, I leave increasingly disappointed, and my last visit seems to have been the final straw. Nowhere in the world have I encountered such an arrogant manager who thinks of himself as the most important person in town. Every time we make a reservation in advance, we request to be seated outside. This has never happened, not once. The last time, our reservation was made by the concierge of Hôtel du Palais. We arrived at the restaurant, and as it opened, my husband's name was first on the list, yet we were seated inside. The waiter explained that we needed to make our reservation earlier… No arguments that our reservation was indeed made in advance helped. You are being talked to here as if you are a nobody; the waiter went to find out about our table, the manager just physically waved his hand, the waiter switched to another table and never came back to us… it was just the beginning. It got worse. We went to dinner without our children but promised to bring them their favourite dessert. I ordered two desserts for us and three to take away (we have three kids). The waiter refused, and without further clarification, I assumed that the dessert was unavailable and ordered a different one. As we were leaving, I saw that the dessert was indeed available. I turned to our waiter and asked why she had refused, to which she replied that the manager made the decision and that I should speak with him. Seriously? Is this person now deciding whether or not I can have dessert?
Service is about feeling welcomed; if something goes wrong, someone approaches you and at least gives you attention, explaining the situation. I understand the restaurant has no shortage of guests, but with a peacock-like appearance at the entrance, it...
Read moreif you are a mother and your are on your own with your baby, DO NOT GO THERE. I went there with my baby as I was having a mother baby Thalasso, my baby was 3 months and a bit, absolutely adorable he slept quietly in his pram. I took a reservation the day before, so far so good when I arrived the next day, I was sat a small table next to the toilet and the passage to the toilet, with absolutely no view. when I asked to the owner what he would recommen foodwise, he recommanded the poisson du jour, fair enough I said. these where 4 "noix de saint jacques". when I saw the bill, I was astonished so see that I paid 26 euros for 4 scallops!!! I just felt totally ripped off.
BUT what was worse was to come, I needed to change the baby, I went to the toilet and ...no baby change!!! I had to change him on the smelly floor.... just to let everyone know that there was enough face to fix one of these foldable baby changing table.... when I came out and I asked the owner about it...he gave me the most ridiculous explanation: that the restaurant was seeking to have some new fitting est but that the application was being processed with unesco national trust or whatever else... come on!!!!! on changing table, they are removable if you have improvement in the setting you can move them!
the food was good don't give me wrong , but the experience was completely tarnished by how I was treated and the total disregard of my status... I really felt that if I had been with my husband, these would have been a completely different experience...
my advice to the owner: going to a restaurant its not just about the food it also about customer service and treating a mother with a baby differently messieurs that is definitely NOT cool!! its called...
Read moreThis is the 1st review I’ve ever written in my 36 years of life but I’ve never felt so mistreated before and I want to make sure at least my story gets shared.
Food was mediocre, not terrible. Service, was so so. Not terrible either. However, at dessert there was a miscommunication between my husband ( who doesn’t speak a word of French ) and our waitress who spoke some English. They brought to our table a strawberry tart instead of strawberries with ice cream. We didn’t touch it and immediately told the waitress so she could change it. She seemed upset but ended taking it back.
Couple minutes later, a bold guy with glasses ( the owner) showed up yelling in French. YES, that’s right. YELLING at my husband and I in the middle of the restaurant. We had no clue what was he saying and we kept looking at each other in disbelief. I finally said: English please and he said “ strawberry for me? OK OK you want for me?? “ and kept repeating himself. He ended up storming out and leaving and now looking back, my husband regrets acting like a gentleman.
We spent €150 and he was arguing about exchanging a dessert that we didn’t touch?!?!?
WHAT A JOKE!!!!
