I almost never write reviews, but my experience at Juan Pedro in Biarritz was so outrageous that I feel compelled to share it.

We were a family of four adults, a 4-year-old child, and a 4-month-old baby, seated on the terrace. When a heavy rain shower started, the staff showed absolutely no concern that we were getting drenched and that our food was becoming inedible. They offered no help, no alternative, and no solution—even though there was clearly plenty of space inside the restaurant and in more sheltered areas.

When we took the initiative to move ourselves to a dry table nearby, instead of assisting us, the waiter simply grumbled because we were apparently “in his way.” And then, incredibly, while it was still raining, the staff began retracting the awning that was providing the little protection we had left. At that moment, the waitress pulling the awning actually told me, without any courtesy, “if you want, you can just leave.”

We were stunned. We had small children with us, yet the staff’s behavior was nothing short of negligent, disrespectful, and arrogant. In a city like Biarritz, which relies heavily on tourism, such treatment is simply unacceptable.

This was one of the most unprofessional and insulting dining experiences I’ve ever had. Needless to say, we will never return, and I strongly advise others—especially families—to avoid this establishment if they expect even the most basic level of service,...

The dishes were excellent, we went twice there to try different sea foods. Everything was fresh and well cooked. I particularly liked the grilled sea food. The only disappointment I had was at the end our meal, when we try to pay the bill. The price was reasonable. The payment process was a bit different comparing to other restaurants in France, we need to go to the counter, which is fine. However, I didn't figure out how to identify our table, as it was the first time I went to this restaurant, failing to describe correctly where we were, the owner of the restaurant showed a cold face and made fun of me, which I didn't appreciate at all. Actually the server of our table was supposed to lead us to the place where we should find the "dish list" of our table, as I said, it was a bit different from others, but I can't blame the server, the poor young man was very busy dealing many requests from the customers, I am particularly surprised by the attitude of the owner, instead of a small effort of guiding me to the right information, he made me feel very uncomfortable. I am OK if not everything is convenient and perfect, all I ask was the sense of...

Truly, there is nothing good about this place. It was the worst food I have eaten in a long time. I had shrimps and my wife had octopus. Both meals were extremely poor and sided with a very cheap tasting red sauce. The shrimps were not freed from their colon which made the whole experience real "dirty". They were fried on an old grill with tuna right next to it. They came partly black and littered with tuna chunks. The fries we ordered as a side dish were so badly fried and tasted like nothing. Honestly, we expected some real good food since the restaurant looked quite authentic and true styled. The opposite was the case. employees were in a real bad mood as well. The prices are high. The boss was eager counting the money. We both ate only 1/3 of our meal. Then we paid and left. We would not recommend anyone to go there. Unless you are really happy to spend a lot of money on...

Casa Juan Pedro. No tablecloths, no pretense, just the sea, a grill, and people who know exactly what the hell they’re doing. The king prawns? Charred just enough to taste like they crawled straight out of the ocean and into the fire. Oysters, cold, briny punches to the face. Squid so tender it practically apologized as you chewed. And the tuna tartare? Clean, sharp, alive. Like the ocean, diced. Washed it all down with Basque cider, funky, wild, beautiful. Like the region itself. Then a chocolate mousse that didn’t try too hard, because it didn’t need to. This is how it’s done. No bull, No ego. Just the kind of meal you remember when you’re staring down your last days, hoping you did something right.

We came here as often as we could over a short stay in Biarritz! A beautiful spot for lunch or a sunset dinner. There are long queues that from quickly so we chose to eat at the start of their dinner service or end of their lunch service to get a table for two! The food is incredible and well priced compared to places close by. The staff are incredibly charismatic and create a welcome fun atmosphere. I am writing this review a over a year later as i randomly today had a flashback to the sunny moments here whilst the rain pours back in London!

6'5/10 (rico)
