We showed up at 8 pm for our reservation. We may not have needed it, but regardless it wasn’t even on their mind as they showed two tables together and rushed to seat us.
It took much longer the normal to be served ( we are used to, and enjoy, the longer wait period of service in France as opposed to Canada). After seeing other tables grab water themselves from the wait station we did the same as we had been waiting well over 30 minutes at this Point for any to come back. When served, it is we rushed. Our drink order was taken at the same time as food (but brought to us after food came out), I asked a simple question about a drink and was told he wasn’t going to note anything about my order and that the bartender will just do what he’ll do. Bread for the tables just sat at the service stand instead of getting distributed and we tried to asked about the wine menu but got rushed into making a selection that turned out to be, well, not good.
Our food was all sub par. The salad was fine, my steak frites were fine but the cordon blue was not good nor was the two pasta dishes. It’s definitely not an Italian restaurant. I would say more like ‘tourist trap’. It’s hard to write bad reviews but on an 18 day trip this was our only true disappointment.
They seem to own or be connected to the restaurant Le Louis XII across the street, as staff are constantly running items back and forth. But Louis was an absolutely wonderful experience. Great charcuterie and bread , amazing wine and spritzes and lovely staff.
We totally recognize that it’s on the edge of busy season and that not all restaurants have their full service staff, but where are stat they could have easily just not opened that portion of the restaurant and controlled the service a bit more. No one knew where any food was going to - as if they didn’t have table numbers or sections (we were asked about 5 times if the food or drinks they were delivering was ours) - it just needed some quality control that didn’t seem to...
Read moreOur worst dining experience in France on our 18 day trip. I understand that it is early in the season and they are short staffed, and we enjoy a relaxed paced serving environment. However , this was much worse. We dined on the upper terrasse, and the algae on the steps, or the dirty awning should have been our first clue. Our reservation was for 8 PM, but we ordered our drinks and meals at 9 PM. We served ourselves two bottles of water, after seeing another couple serve their own.Our drinks came after our meal was served, and the drinks were incorrect, and poor quality. The steak frites was acceptable, but the pasta and the cordon bleu were substandard. When it came time to pay, the waiter asked me if I wanted to add tip with my Visa card. I told him that the tip in France is included with the meal. He still asked me if I wanted to include a tip, and I replied "no." I am not sure if this is his way of taking advantage of tourists that don't speak, fluent French. I would not recommend this restaurant. It is listed as Italian cuisine, but has too...
Read moreTerrible service. Its so bad that you dont dare to ask them about anything. And when you do, they act like your wrong. Most of the waiters look stressed. Food-wise it is not amazing. The chicken is dry, the burger is not good, the fries are horrendous. The pizza is pretty good but for the price of 12-20€ you'd expect something much much more. As for the Café Gourmand, the coffee was good but i didn't quite get the "gourmand" out of it... half of a madelaine, a piece of dry cake and a scoop of industrial Chantilly cream is really out of any decent standard. We also had a souless tiramisu, no taste except a bland creamy white dessert that doesn't deserve to sound like any proper Italian dessert. And for the waiters, they really seem like they dont know what to do. They will walk past you 5 times after you're done eating and they wont propose to get rid of your plates. Service is just very off and the food...
