Bonjour! I have been to L’Alchimiste three times during my stay in Bordeaux, most recently this past Monday and Tuesday. Monday I had the best chocolate chaude I’ve ever had, it was so creamy and they use the best chocolate, really high quality, some of which settles, nicely melted and fun to scoop up with a spoon at the end, which you try to prolong. The perfect warm drink for a cool, fall day!

And the cappuccino, well, what can I say! Smooth and creamy! And both drinks most artfully presented with a frothy heart on top!

And the lovely people! Going out of their way to take care of anyone who enters! Just a delight! The whole coffee shop is so very tasteful in its surroundings and the great energy there makes it a perfect stop, morning or afternoon, for that perfect warm...

Great cafe for specialty coffee lovers. Freshly roasted. Several single origin beans are on offer. Their own blend is pretty good too. All expected extraction methods are offered. Whole beans to take away. Coffee to take away. Friendly barista, answered all my curiosity questions about the beans. We tried multiple beans as espresso and filter, as well as in the latte form, and all of them were amazing. The ceramics are pretty cool too. Great space inside and outside, great location - a quiet street around the corner from busy Gambetta where you can sit, relax and recharge. L'alchemiste do roast their own coffee beans, but the roaster is not in this coffee shop, I think. The main visit was great coffee, so I did not pay attention to sweet and savoury snacks, but there were...

We had a day in Bordeaux and built our itinerary around coffee and food. Typically I struggle to find (i) great coffee; and (ii) non-UHT milk when exploring coffee shops in wider France, but I was pleased to find a number of options in Bordeaux and having tried 3 cafes, L'Alchimiste edges it as my favourite.

The service was attentive and knowledgeable - the staff took their time to discuss their products and helped us choose some beans to take home which having now got home and brewed on my home machine, I must say match exactly what we were looking for.

The ambience of the shop was spot on and it was in a beautiful tucked away corner of a tranquil street.

If you're in Bordeaux and looking for great coffee, then this...

We waited for almost 40 minutes for two takeaway coffees. The staff was not really welcoming. We went inside to place our order, and a girl immediately asked us to wait outside without even checking if we had already ordered. The lady eventually took our order and we paid. However, she forgot to inform the barista. They kept looking at us as we stood outside, but nobody even asked if we were okay. I lost my patience and asked where the coffee was. The lady has no idea and the barista. Finally, our coffees arrived, one without a lid and one has with the same order. Being a coffee lover I would say the taste is normal and not the best in the city.

One of the best coffee shops in Bordeaux! ☕ The decoration is very aesthetic, the place smells as good coffee and the service is very friendly. I visited with my girlfriend and we ordered 2 cappuccinos and a chocolatine. One plus thing is that they have alternative milk options as oat milk, which is good for people with lactose intolerance, which is something I haven't found that much in Bordeaux. Finally, there is a small boutique with coffee machines and filters, also charts about coffee around the world, You can also buy coffee from different countries like Brasil, Colombia, Kenya and Rwanda. Highly recommended!
