Excellent food and service at a reasonable price.
Walked past this place a few days prior and saw it was busy so we booked a table to make sure we got a chance to try it. Glad we did because it was very good, although a few minor shortcomings stopped this from being a 5 star review.
We had the tasting menu and opted for the choice between fish or chicken and got one of each.
Start was a cutlet of pork which was really tasty, tender meat and the various mousses/sauces (they really enjoy moussifying stuff...) all had lovely intense flavour and were perfect for mopping up with the bread they offered free. 9/10
For mains I got the fish which was good, but felt like it needed a crispy char on one side for balance, it felt a bit homogenous. Sauced were good, but the vegetables were a little underdone. 7/10
Wife had the chicken for mains which also had similarly tasty sauces and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the chicken was slightly dry at the thin end - was better at the thicker end though. Also the skin, which I felt would have been excellent if it was crispy and full of flavour, was unfortunately a little limp. Still a nice dish though, don't get me wrong. 7/10
For dessert we had a 'surprise' which (spoilers) was crumble served cute little flowerpot with a scoop of lemon sorbet. The crumble topping and mousse/cream underneath weren't too sweet which was lovely and paired well wtih the sorbet. At the bottom was a layer of apple chunks which I felt didn't quite fit. If they had been lightly caramelised or otherwise prepared (as opposed to raw) might have worked better, but I see they wanted the dessert to be light so I can understand why they tried just fresh apple. 7.5/10
Finally to finish I had a coffee and we got a complimentary chocolate. Coffee was nice, mellow and flavourful. The chocolate though, I think is prepared in-house, it had this wonderfully intense coca flavour, very thin and only a touch of sweetness. Delicious! 9/10
Overall, this place is on the edge of being pretentious, but you can see they're earnestly just trying to do something a bit special. The tables for example are cut from whole tree trunks and have little engravings of special dates which I thought was actually quite cool. And at only €28 per person for a three course meal I thought it was...

Impeccable service, impeccable food and impeccable atmosphere at unbeatable prices.
It was a set menu with an option for pork or fish as main course, we both went for the pork. The food was exquisite and the dishes were perfectly executed with great presentation and clinical attention to details to both look and taste.
I was so impressed by the all experience that at some point, to prove to myself it was not just me being in a good mood, I found myself trying very hard to fault it, looking for something wrong, I could not.
Henry's knowledge of wines, food and the restaurant itself is impressive and whenever he was explaining something to us, it was obvious he loves what he does and it was contagious! Perhaps even more impressive than the knowledge itself, was the way he was able to share it with us, with great communication skills and a perfectly balanced body language, never looked or sounded unprofessional and yet managed to come across friendly and caring. A balance act that only a few can master!
As we left the restaurant with big smiles on our faces, still bragging on how great the experience had been my phone rings ( ..UK number ! ), He' s Henry, we left a bag at the table! Just when we thought we could not be more impressed !
If you are looking for a place where you want a reliable, great, young and dynamic team to take care of you, where the pressure of having to choose your food is taken away by a cleaver set menu that allows them to give you the best value for money you will ever experience, here you found it! Don't trust me, trust...
Read moreThere are 5 star restaurants, and then there are restaurants so clearly above the other 5 star restaurants that you wish you could give them 6. Son' is one of them. From the setting, service and food, we were blown away at every step. We started the night with a series of intricate amuse bouche which were not only delicious but captured our anticipaction of what's to come. Entrees amazed us with superb balance of flavours, textures and concepts, and in each dish we could taste how the combination of elements is elevated over the sum of its parts. For example, oyster sorbet, while fascinating on its own, lent the perfect amount of briny umami to the Riso dish. We continue to be impressed by smoked sturgeon, blue ling with greens and grains and a beautiful sauce to tie it all up, and finally the chicken with vadouvan was the best elevated chicken dish we have had. Dessert was creative and demonstrated the chef's passion and brilliance. We had a perfect dinner at Son', much better than many restaurants with michelin stars, and we can't...
