Brasserie La Place — Restaurant in Boulogne-sur-Mer

DO NOT DINE HERE, and don't listen to any of the slightly good reviews of this place. They need a complete change of chef and kitchen. Four of us sat for dinner and ordered the "onion soup," which was not the traditional french onion soup at all. It was white and watery with the smallest bits of what tasted like pickled onion. When we asked about why the soup tasted like this, the waitress said it's blended onion with potato. It had barely any flavour apart from watery pickle. We said it shouldn't be advertised as an onion soup then, but she replied that it's still onion soup because it has small pieces of onion inside. One of us didn't touch the soup any further. For the second course, two of us ordered the "beef Bourguignon". The chips were not fully cooked through, which were hard and raw. The beef stew looked like it was served straight out the microwave. It had the dried up stew around the inside of the pot with the pieces of beef above being more dry than the other pieces - clear signs of microwave. It again was runny, sour, and watery with no flavour. None of us could eat it. We had to ask for a refund of the meals and agreed to pay for 3 of the soups that were partially consumed. The waitress argued that we should pay for all 4 soups because "there was nothing wrong with them" even though one of us did not eat it at all. One of us got a bad tummy later that evening.

To summarise - Gordon Ramsey himself needs to come and check their food and kitchen because I thought I was on Kitchen Nightmares whilst...

It's a no from me. We stopped in for a bite whilst visiting Bolougne, one of our favourite towns. We ordered steak and scallops.

Whilst the service was fairly quick, the delivery of the food took quite some time. When the food did arrive it was revolting. The steak was a cheap cut of meat that had not been seasoned at all, and did not look as though it had been rested properly. The side dishes were dry and looked to have been reheated.

The scallops were also lacking any flavour, although cooked correctly, their sides also appeared to have been cooked in a microwave from frozen.

Two stars are for the location, which is beautiful and scenic. My recommendation would be to hire a new chef who knows how to...

Terrible meal, one of the worst I can remember and wish I had read reviews before ordering. Oysters were tiny and had been so badly shucked, there were loads of shards of shell I had to pick out, steak frite was very small, extremely chewy, undercooked and flavourless, the scallops were also undercooked (raw in middle) and served with some flavourless vegetables. Service was very slow and had to be reminded of drinks which didn’t arrive and we had to ask for plates to be taken away 10-15 minutes after finishing a course. Only one toilet, so had a queue of 5 people. Location is nice, but not much else going for this place,...
