Le Rustique — Restaurant in Briançon

Amazing experience overall. Our table of 7 sat on a large round table in this beautifully designed restaurant. We came between Christmas and New Year’s Eve to enjoy the specialities Raclette and “la fondue brianconnaise aux morilles et champignons” in the heart of the vauban forteresse. Claudine welcomed us at the start of the service and made us at ease following a hectic day with 2 young children. Our youngest had the privilege of seating in an old baby chair which brought back memories across the 3 generations at the table. Looking around, the decor was fantastic with plenty to entertain our discussion and reinforce the holiday feeling. We were served within a reasonable time. The kids enjoyed their meal as well as ate some cheese from our main dishes as the fondue and raclette smelled fantastic and portions were large. This is so much more than a restaurant - it's an experience! My husband, mother-in-law and I had a wonderful evening at Le Rustique. We sat down at our table next to the window in an old wooden sleigh and immediately noticed a deck of cards in front of us. We had been playing cards every evening on holiday so far, so were pleased we could continue this tradition at the restaurant after our meal. The staff were so friendly and were there to make sure we were having a good time. At one point during the meal we were given a coin each to pick a song in the duke box. I strongly recommend this place for several reasons. Pros: Jean-Luc and his family have done a fantastic job from beginning to end. Generous, talented, friendly, open-minded, laid back, willing to make you feel being a part of their experience. I feel like Jean-Luc and his wife are not pretending to be this way, they genuinely are, which is rare and precious. Cons: Not the cheapest place in town, but everything else about this place will make you want to be generous like they are, and help them keep their fantastic family business on.
