Bistrot 44 — Restaurant in Cherbourg

Life dream of visiting D-DAY from the U.S.A. Unfortunately, the chapel, and just about everything else, was closed. But I made it here. This place to eat was open. Very small and crowded. Doesn't look like much, but just wait. They seated my family and I but couldn't place us at the same table, though they tried. The kindest French gentlemen moved just for us. I couldn't decide what to eat. Another French gentlemen suggested something. It was unusual but my family didn't know what to order. Everyone in the dinner made suggestions, conversations, the employees, and the conversation that came was the best, from locals and staff. I say unusual in a wonderful way. I never expected the friendliness, and genuine friendship. I mentions I was a US Marine and I never felt more special and welcome. The food was THE BEST. Don't ask what I ordered as I couldn't tell but it was GOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!. My family all ordered what was recommended. Tried everything and everything was excellent. I had the BEST apple cider (alcohol) that was suggested. WOW!!! This stop at this diner made my whole vacation worth every penny. The hospitality was humbling to me. Absolutely lovely. Located in the centre of the town Bistrot 44 serves up an excellent range of freshly prepared & made food & drinks. Saying that doesn't really do it just, in our party of 5, 3 had the Normande burger which looked lovely, whilst another had a cheese & tomato pizza, whilst I had the pizza savoyarde, one of my favourite pizzas, which was cooked just right. I'd have to say that this pizza, rich in flavour & taste with a creamy texture is probably one of the best that i have had. A very good pizza 🍕.

The staff were friendly, the service was excellent. It's a bistrot that we have passed many times on our trips to the town & to the D-Day beaches but one that we've not ventured in before. I certainly will again & feel disappointed that this was the first time.

We just wanted to drink a coffee during lunch time. Entering the place they asked us what we want to consume. We asked if it would be possible just to have a coffee. They told us that the bistro is more a "restaurant" and it would be possible if we stay for a short time . We thought ok , but we didn't felt welcomed at all. So we wanted to sit by the window and again they asked to sit in the middle of the room. NOBODY was in this place! So we preferd to leave this "restaurant ". They probably thought we were just some...
