I'm writing this review after an unfortunate experience at a restaurant that purportedly prides itself on being "high-class." It's seldom that I take the time to leave a review, but this incident warrants a recounting to hopefully warn others of what might await them.
On our visit, my companion and I were looking forward to indulging in some desserts accompanied by a good bottle of wine - a common enough request, one would think. To our surprise and disappointment, we were told that we couldn't order unless we also included a main dish. This was a first for us; never before have we been to a restaurant where we were compelled to order a specific type of dish, even more so at one that claims high status.
The waitress informed us that as a "high-class" restaurant, they only served full courses. While I respect the establishment's prerogative to maintain its standards, I must point out that being high-class is not only about offering full courses. In my experience, a truly high-class restaurant is one that prioritizes the needs and satisfaction of its guests above all, accommodating their reasonable requests rather than rejecting them.
The insistence on serving only full courses came across as inflexible and more focused on their rules than on customer service. It's a shame because this rigid policy certainly soured what could have been a delightful dining experience.
In conclusion, no matter how refined the ambiance or exquisite the menu, a high-class restaurant should remember that high-class service is paramount. Listening and responding to customer requests with flexibility and grace is a hallmark of genuinely excellent hospitality. Regrettably, this was not our experience, and we left disappointed and without the chance to taste what could have been memorable desserts and wine. For those looking for a high-class experience that includes outstanding service, I suggest...
Read moreThe service was rude. We came in with 4 adults and 4 children and ordered 1 of the plates for the children to split. The waitress came in telling us that splitting dishes is not allowed and would not bring us food unless we ordered another dish. We had hungry and tired children who would not be served. They also wouldn't give us extra plates so that we can try and share some of the food. The waitress was rude and not accommodating. The food ended up being average. I would not recommend this restaurant especially for families. UPDATE TO RESPOND TO THE OWNER: We ordered 3 plates for 4 children. And a total of 7 plates...
Read moreThe food was delicious. My pasta was very flavorful and my husband’s steak was just as he liked it. Our salads were fresh, crisp, and full of flavor as well. To top off our meal I indulged in a crème brûlée and my husband enjoyed the blueberry tart. Both were very generous portions that were too appealing to our tastebuds to leave any behind. The fact that the restaurant was set in the quaint village of Riquewihr, made it a magical first meal at our arrival...
