We have been coming to Ribeauville for 8 years now for the Pffiferdaj festival which is an incredible experience. The last 5 years we have had lunch at the Cheval Blanc on the day of the parade because it allows you a good seat to view the parade as it winds down the Grand Rue. Lunch is not anything memorable and a bit expensive for what you get but then again, they are tasked with cooking and serving a few hundred people on the day of the parade. The owner and staff have always been rude to us but I always chalked it up to the craziness/busyness of the weekend. This year we experienced a new level of hostility. There are two rows of tables, the front row is on the street and affords the best view and the back row is along the wall of the restaurant. It was a very hot and sunny day so someone (not in our party) asked if they could extend the awning to provide shade for us (whose tables were along the front of the restaurant) which they did. What happened next is a bit odd so I don't know that we have the whole story but apparently, one of the front row tables complained that it was not equitable that we had shade and they did not so the owner retracted the awning in order to be equitable...huh?!?!? My response to the complaining table would have been that the front row had a better view therefore the equitable argument would not stand. If the owner had used a bit of logic she might have been able to run a cost-benefit analysis of the situation and determine that she had the choice of making the one front table unhappy versus the entire back row of tables. Not a very smart decision on her part. As the other reviews state, you often get eye rolling, noises and faces for the most basic requests. Take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of other choices for eating and seating along the Grand Rue and through airbnb for accommodations. This establishment needs a reminder that we, the "annoying" public are...

Read moreThis restaurant left a truly wonderful impression on us. The staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed our meal outside with a beautiful backdrop.
We ordered the lunch set menu with a Starters+ Main courses (€45). 6 Snails in Garlic Butter were absolutely delicious. I soaked up all the sauce with the bread and ate it all.. Turbot Steam White, Risotto with Truffle Oil was also really good. The fish was incredibly tender with no fishy smell at all. The risotto sauce was a bit salty for my taste, but overall, the risotto was good.
Homemade duck liver and the Beef filet, both of which were very satisfying. Just a heads-up: some dishes on the set menu come with an extra charge (+€6 / +€8), so it's worth checking the details before ordering. We loved the Louis Sipp Riesling so much that we visited the Louis Sipp winery afterward and bought several bottles. We also looked for Gustave Lorentz Riesling in several shops, but unfortunately couldn’t find it.. We had a delicious meal in beautiful Ribeauvillé and came away with such...
