S'Garwer Stub — Restaurant in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

After walking up and down the Grand Rue and doing some shopping we were hungry. We were a bit late and most restaurants stopped serving.

This place here was still serving lunch though. Located on a very nice square on the Grand Rue. It was still fully booked, but a table got just available. Outside, on this very nice and sunny day. Our Bulldog was welcome as well.

Ordered two beer, six escargots (snails) and a skirt steak with Foie Gras on top (Rossini style, just without redwine reduction). Staff was ok, pretty busy, but fine. Prices really fair here.

The steak was ok, not the highest quality - but good value. Nice combination with the Foie Gras though. Fries were nicely presented, hot and crispy. The real surprise were the Escargot. Nice, big snails. A very fresh and rich garlic/parsley sauce. For 7 Euros a real steal and some of the best escargots we've had yet.

All in all an enjoyable place. Not perfect, but fair priced and good to...

Location good, but the food we got was very far from the normal standard in the area. We shared a flammen Kuchen and the melon ham salad. In the salad the leaves were brown, fruit and vegetables were also not fresh, finally it was topped up with a pre-made dressing of the cheaper kind. The flammen kuchen was okay, the dough nice but the filling could have had longer in the oven. We decided to try the Tate tartin for dessert. But also here we got disappointed with some sort of cake that seemed to have been pulled directly from the freezer to the micro oven only to be bathed in canned sauce anglese, whipped cream from can and a scope of ice-cream with small overdue chocolate buttons. Waiter was friendly, but spend too much time talking to her friends than attending to...

Loved this place. Was open kitchen when much of the rest of the town seemed to be closing down. Friendly and good service to my English only handicap, with a few good beers, some rugby on the big screen that didnt take over the place with noise and an excellent "wurst und kase" salad with just the right amounts of tomaten, cornichons, eier und feldsalat. The dressing tasted so good I couldn't save room for the main course which was a veal fillet with mushroom and onion cream sauce mit pommes de terres and veggies...
