For anyone who wants to get a taste of excellent, traditional cuisine dijonnaise, as well as the regional hospitality, this restaurant is a must. Period.
We were in a group of nine, and sat in the lovely Place Émile Zola. The bustling atmosphere was tempered by the beautiful surroundings, and the kind of mysterious conviviality for which France has a well-earned reputation.
Our server was nothing short of delightful, and helped us with everything from describing and selecting items in French and English, to fixing a shaky table to ensure our experience was the best it could be. The owner was also a class act, and made sure all clientele were well taken care of in the surrounding seating areas. Cannot thank them enough for their attention and pleasant demeanor.
Finally, the food was of tremendous quality, faithfully representing some of the best the Burgundy region has to offer, as well as some true staples of any French table. Escargot to die for, some of the freshest bread any of us had during our stay, excellent main dishes from duck breast filets to boeuf bourguignon and traditional farmer’s chicken to please any palate. Despite being full and in a flavor daze, almost everyone had to try the amazing desserts, and finish with a lovely coffee. Our serve always greeted us with a smile, and showed sincere interest in our experience.
Gotta check it out, folks. 10/10, can’t wait to...
Read moreLast night of our family vacation we were recommended this restaurant by the hotel what a nightmare!!! The service was awful, we ordered our drinks after waiting ages for a waiter who eventually brought our wine.... with no glasses to drink from! The food orders could only be taken by the manager who was going to every other table but ours,he eventually took our food order in such a rush that one of our group didn’t receive their starter and another main came after everyone had finished!!! Waited 35 mins for a glass of beer. The manager had no respect or etiquette towards us as his customers he was rude. We said we would write a review about the awful treatment we had to which his response was he didn’t care!!! On paying we took our time to check the bill as they had made so many mistakes which he got irate about eventually he said he’d call the police which there was no need as we had paid the bill. When the police arrived we explained the sitauation and they we were fine what a waste of police time! This guy needs to go on management training as he sent out one of his waitresses to deal with this issues rather than handling himself. What an...
Read moreThe service was at once rushed and negligent. Every contact with our waiter gave us the impression that he wanted us to hurry with our orders and requests, but it took at least 20 minutes for him to even show up to take our order in the first place. Then they brought the wine before the glasses. And then he about half an hour to bring us the check after we asked.
Food was good: no complaints there. Just a warning for foreigners: that mac and cheese with sausage isn't just any sausage. It's putrid-smelling intestine sausage. Beware! Andouillette, I think it's called. Avoid if you've never had intestine. A $$$ place isn't where you want your introduction.
There were a few interesting touches. I hear nonsense is all the rage in Paris, so the same kitsch has bled into Dijon. For example, our wine came in a florescent pink plastic bag full of cold water. A bag that still had its product tag attached. Bread was served in a polka-dotted tin easter pail. The sort of thing you get from the dollar shelf at Target. These touches seemed unnecessary to me, and a distraction from the good...
