My husband and I visited this restaurant while on our honeymoon. Our hotel (the Chateau Saint Martin) recommended the restaurant, and made a reservation on our behalf.
When we arrived, we said we had a reservation for two, and gave our name. The woman who owns the restaurant said that was "impossible", and interrogated us about how we made the reservation and when. She chided us as if she caught us lying about being late for curfew. My husband said we could leave if there was no room at the restaurant. (The restaurant was more than two-thirds empty.) She aggressively shuttled us to a table for two and walked away.
The exchange lasted maybe a minute, and my husband and I stared at each other over the table dumbstruck. Appalled by the rude introduction to the restaurant, we pulled out our phones to find alternative options. As we did so, the woman returned to chide us for trying to find an "online/email reservation" that would prove her wrong. Instead of explaining (again) how we made a reservation to her mostly empty restaurant, I asked her why she was so visibly mad with us. Non-plussed, she responded by saying because she "was full." She did not apologize or attempt to smooth over the situation. We stood up and said we would just leave instead. She walked us back to the exit and (actually) said, "Don't trip on the way out."
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for...
Read moreExcellent but room for improvement
The food was excellent and tasted wonderful! We have nothing to complain about from this side. However, the service was lacking for multiple reasons: The server only took the drink request of two of our guests while the remainder of our guests sat at the table without anything to drink. She then took the order for two more guests but still left out another person. When serving the food, the meal was placed without thought in front of each guest. For example, the steaks were served facing away from the guest and one would have to rotate the plate themselves. Although this may seem irrelevant, it is common practice for restaurants of this caliber, especially in reflection to the menu prices, to place the main part of the meal in front of the guest and not away. Once the main course was cleared, the server reached in front of the guest rather than around. When you’re having a conversation this may be seen as very intrusive and impolite. At the end of our meal we felt that the service staff wanted us to leave as they were cleaning up the restaurant making unnecessary loud noises that felt intentional. Again, the food was excellent and we will definitely try it again in the future, however, we do hope that the staff will work a little bit harder on improving their...
Read moreI had initially posted a review with 5 stars recommending the place. This was based on a visit to the restaurant with family two years ago. The place was almost empty and the food and service were amazing. This summer, I made a reservation in early August for dinner for 4 people. My wife and I had friends over and wanted to take them out to dinner. When we got there the place was packed and the owner said we didn't have a reservation acting all perplexed and almost annoyed. This was extremely embarrassing for us. I am not sure if she did so because she overbooked or it had rained that night and the outdoor had to be shut, but her behaviour is unacceptable. It was dishonest and outrageous. I will never dine there again. We spend a significant amount of time in this part of France every year and have lots of friends over. We would never recommend that place.
Please beware when booking a table as you will learn from my review and that of many others that the behaviour of the owner is a recurring event. If you are part of a hotel or any business that deals with guests, I would advise that you do not recommend this restaurant to...
