The staff of this restaurant seems not properly trained when operating in a service industry in a place-of-interest that receives visitors as a daily normal.
A very unexpected annoying and disgusting experience from this restaurant which undermines the beauty of the small village.
We arrived at the Chateau Eglise at around 18:10. After walking around for a little while, we decided to eat there and saw this restaurant occupying a good location with tables in a more or less ready state in the open area outside where all visitors could easily pass by. Some ladies gatheried around a table chatting and drinking( later it turned out they are employees of the restaurant). We walked toward one of the tables and wanted to sit and order. Then came a young waiter telling the restaurant only opens at 19:00, still 40 min to go and we could wait if we want. We thought that is not long and we could still hanging around a bit, so we decide to wait. At around 18:40, I wanted to use the restroom quickly, and asked the same waiter for help. He pointed the way inside the restaurant for me. I walked in, then immediately was stopped by a unfriendly waitress with very cold voice “the toilet can only be used by customers” (in French but I could tell the meaning). I tried to explain and told I was given the permission by her colleague outside, but not sure wether she understood I am a potential customer. She was very angry with distorted face saying something like cursing, I ignored but continued my way upstairs and visited the restroom quickly. When I came out, I did hesitate a bit whether I should change my mind and no longer eat there, but I tried to convince myself this unfriendliness from this lady is just an outlier and that young waiter already counted us as their customer since we were hanging around outside the restaurant after he told us we needed to wait for 40min. Around 18:55, we saw some people starting to sit down, then we walked toward the tables. Then came a “friendly-looking” waitress(not the one who almost stopped me from using toilet) and asked us whether we had reservation. We were very surprised, said, no, but we had been waiting for almost 40min and her colleague told us to start at 19:00 without telling we need an official reservation. Then this waitress lost her friendly face and used probably “textbook” tricks to handle us. She repeated with “it’s fully booked, I am sorry, it’s fully booked, I am sorry, ….” without showing any sympathy and without any interest in figuring out how this situation was created. She did not even try to find her waiter colleague( who happened to disappear during our hard moments). She did not want to listen to us at all, even we tried to express our concern on this “mishandling”. She just repeating “I am sorry, it’s fully booked” again and again, using this way to expel us.
With a big anger and dissatisfaction, we left. I believe our experience is not common, but for us, it’s all what we experienced. Hope no other non-French looking and non-French speaking visitors will repeat our story. But if you do not speak French, be more alert, no one knows how deep and dirty the water is in this place!
Shame on this restaurant, shame on its owner, shame on those...
Read moreThe food here is incredible! I had the best duck and sweet potato mash I’ve ever had, maybe because it didn’t taste duck-y. My wife loved the truffle pasta, perfectly al dente and such a strong wonderful flavor. The salmon was also very good and all the vegetables were cooked perfectly. To finish it off they burned and crystallized the creme brule tableside. Le Village was so good that we decided to return a second night. When the food is this good, I’d pass up the “possibility” of a decent meal for a guaranteed amazing one. The second night we had the mushroom and parmesan appetizer; different than what I thought it was going to be (uncooked) but still very tasty. Our main dishes were the giant prawn (sucked the heads and all of course for the best flavor) and their steak with white truffle sauce. My wife said that it was in her top 3 best steaks she’s ever had. Then to finish off with dessert we had the XXL Cream Puffs; essentially cream giant cream puffs with amazing ice-cream in the middle if the puffs, then covered in decadent chocolate sauce with a side of whipped cream. Even though they were XXL they were...
Read moreAvoid Le Village – terrible service and awful drinks
My girlfriend and I visited Le Village in Cagnes-sur-Mer and it was a complete disappointment. We ordered two cocktails – a Lemon Spritz and an Espresso Martini, both at €14 each. Both drinks were honestly awful: mine tasted like cough medicine (Strepsils) and hers was watery and bland. We took no more than two sips just to taste.
We politely asked if we could change them – the first waiter said “of course.” Then another server came and told us we had to pay for them anyway. We said fine, but the next round should at least be free or heavily discounted. That’s when the manager arrived with an incredibly rude attitude, demanded my card, and refused to listen. She spoke to us like we were idiots and insisted “they use the same recipes as everywhere else,” even though the drinks clearly tasted like garbage.
We paid and left extremely disappointed. This was hands down the worst customer service we’ve ever experienced – completely unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Choose literally any other bar or restaurant in the area – just...
