I cannot understand why this restaurant has such good reviews. We ordered the La Carbonade and a hamburger. Both were almost inedible. One came with "sweet potato fries." The burger was not so much Saignant as completely raw, which would be OK if the meat were finely ground and of a quality to tolerate that, but it wasn't. The Carbonade was congealed, gristly, and tough. The sweet potato fries almost indescribable - they were cooked, but were like soggy vegetables that had been kept too long. There as nothing fried or crisp about them. The salad was limp and unprepossessing. It was a long day and there seemed little point in complaining as there was so much that was wrong. The proprietor asked if all was well when he saw how much we were leaving and we described some of the problems. He was defensive and, perhaps understandably said we should have said something. Frankly, I did not see the point due to the generic standard fo the food - it was not as if there was a particular item that had a problem.

Also, as the menu was online, we asked for the wifi code - and was told it was "too long" to give us.

The food here is really really good! We got the goat cheese salad... Let me tell you it was soooo good! We also got the steak (bavette Angus) and it was cooked to perfection, serves with homemade tiny fries, a small salad and a side of the best onion sauce I've ever had. The owner also made a small beef steak with fries for our son as a kids meal. Finally, we got a chocolate mousse that had a mango and raspberry sauce drixxled on the top that was bomb diggaty! This place should have a much lower rating. We had high expectations due to the reviews, but it is very confusing to me how this place scores so high. The food was very disappointing. Bone marrow served with supermarket bread. The Welsh dish is an attack on your body with cheap ham and bread, topped with a scoop of cheese, how is this a dish? Cod dish had no flavor at all.
