As a tribute to the well-known French president Charles de Gaulle, the Grand Place of Lille was renamed Place du Géneral de Gaulle. This is a unique beautiful square with many attractions such as the Vieille Bourse, the statue of La Déesse, a fountain, the Grand-Garde building, Le Furet du Nord (largest bookstore in the world) and many restaurants and terraces. Unbelievably beautiful city. So much to see and do from shopping to dining and drinking. A tip for new travellers, the streets are cobbled paving so wear trainers or flats to make getting around easier.
