Our meal began with a plain but good green salad and fairly polite service. We both had the entrecôte and frites as mains. The beef was served cold, filled with gristle, overdone on the edges and raw in the middle — meat your average Waffle House wouldn’t serve. The frites were limp and tasteless. Disheartened, we didn’t finish, didn’t complain, but simply asked for the check. When vague dismay was expressed over the uneaten food, my husband simply told them the food was not good. With a shrug, the check was brought, and the trouble began. My husband’s credit card was invalid. But we had just that afternoon run it through two museums and six toll booths, entirely unimpeded. When my husband said he would call our bank on mobile that minute, the waiter declared he could not speak English. I handed him a different card with the same result. Invalid card. Utter BS. When I declared firmly that we had no cash, but that I had many, many cards, and could present several more, he shrugged, took the next card, and voila! THIS card went through. I then picked up my husband’s original card, showed him the two together —identical numbers. The same account. Another shrug, and no apology whatsoever. Here is what I think — they are targeting tourists whom they think cannot speak French, perhaps because they don’t wish to serve them to begin with. Or perhaps because they feel frustration will set in and the customer, not knowing what else to do, will simply pay cash, and allow them to pay less tax. And lest you think I’m just mean and spiteful, look at my review history. I’m the Sally Sunshine of reviewers — not that hard to please. So please give La Reserve what they so clearly want and go elsewhere,...

Just enjoyed a really delicious starter and main course (and underwhelming dessert) at this lovely town centre restaurant. I should point out that I have been supplying the licensed trade with wine for 33 years. This would have been, undoubtedly, a 4 star review except for a poor oversight on pricing. The menu says that 3 courses of your choice from the whole menu with a couple of clearly stated exceptions is €39.40- a bargain and no mistake. Nowhere did it say that in order to get this deal that you needed to ask for it when ordering. My wife and I chose 3 courses each (and a delicious bottle of Vouvray) When it came to pay the bill and they hadn't applied the discount I asked the server about this. After some discussion I was told that this was a problem with the menu and that we needed to state in advance that we intended to have 3 courses. I paid the full amount (about €20 more) but felt that this was a short-sighted way of dealing with a customer. I would have happily left a good tip but because of this i didn't. I know that a good restaurateur would have admitted their mistake, left a positive feeling with a good, relatively high spending customer thereby avoiding a bad feeling and a negative...

The French seem to have forgotten how to cook. Because almost everywhere is closed on a Monday, we reluctantly dined here. I had the pork, most likely poached for hours, microwaved when ordered, unseasoned and drier than Ghandis flip flop, a dollop of pathetic tinned tomato sauce with seeds mixed in, side of lettuce and lots of cheap vinaigrette on... Oh, the 80s ring of balsamic reduction on every dish was a masterpiece! Come on guys, roast the pork in a pan with some butter and herbs and garlic, reduce a tomato sauce with herbs to make a beautiful fondue, don't insult us with crap salads and sweet potato purree to fill the plate, honestly France, is this the best you can do? You used to be the pioneers of great food, not anymore, it's lazy and quite frankly extremely poor.

Good, not great fine dining experience. Dined in off season, so there were no specials du jour - just the standard a la carte menu. It tends towards the more traditional French cuisine, delicious but quite rich and heavy. Had the millefeuille with cheese + salad entrée (good entrée, bit heavy on the sausage), veal kidney with carrot/potato (hearty and satisfying, a little overcooked) and pineapple in grand marnier (satisfying but over-sweet). All the flavors were good and solid, but lacking a certain refinement and depth. Not great value compared to some of the other similarly priced fine dining restaurants in the area. Direct and functional service. Nice atmosphere except for the commercial FM radio.

Mixed bag here. Wanted to like this place-- hard-working manager, but too many negatives (especially when you consider all the good alternatives nearby). Our indifferent waitress didn't seem happy to be there. As far as food, the duck and steak were quite good; the salad was mediocre; and the tuna was just north of inedible. Another issue: with all of the focus on health, it's ironic that tons of smokers sit 1 meter from the front of the restaurant in the outdoor section and their smoke wafts through into the indoor section (which is supposed to be strictly non-smoking)
