5 Stars of Confusion and Class I Clearly Lack
Let me start by saying this: Côté Cuisine is absolutely stunning. The kind of place where the cutlery feels smarter than you, and the wine list has more depth than my entire personality. It has a Michelin star, which in normal-people terms means “You probably shouldn’t be here unless you know what a foam reduction is.”
As soon as I sat down, I could smell the sophistication… or maybe that was the truffle air misted over my amuse-bouche. Hard to tell.
The kitchen is partially open, and you can see the chefs working like precision surgeons - tweezers in hand, dotting sauces with the intensity of bomb squad technicians. I half-expected them to ask me to sign a waiver before consuming the art they served me.
Now, I’ll be honest: this kind of food is not my scene. I don’t have a “palette”; let’s just say my taste buds are more used to frozen pizza than fine dining. So when the first dish arrived - an abstract expression of ocean breeze with a single leaf and something that looked like it had been poached by moonlight (or something along those lines) I panicked slightly. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen on a plate. It also, I swear, tasted a bit like cat food, but upscale of course. (That’s not entirely a complaint. I love cats. I would 100% die for my cat.)
I could tell the staff were nervous. Maybe they saw me eyeing the bread like it was my salvation. Or maybe they just sensed I wasn’t worthy. Either way, they were incredibly kind and attentive, like art gallery attendants afraid I’d try to lick the sculptures.
Despite not understanding a single thing I was eating, and I may have accidentally called one dish “mystery pâté surprise,” although the chef would likely insist it was a carefully balanced oyster mousse with radish shavings or something equally refined - I had a lovely time. The wine was divine, the ambiance perfect, and the entire experience was oddly thrilling in a “wearing someone else’s shoes to prom” kind of way.
So, five stars. Even though my taste buds were confused and maybe a little betrayed, my soul was nourished. I left feeling full… of questions, yes, but also gratitude.
Highly recommend, just maybe bring a granola bar if you're the kind of person who thinks “umami”...
Read moreA great place to have a relax! The best level food with fair price and service with warm kindness. The starters are fresh made seafood with sauce to open your appetite. You can have the white meat or red meat with appropriate extent of cooking, which keeps the original flavors of food and favorable for commons. The desserts are traditional French style. The wine list gives many options to fit the menu. The service made us feel at home. Even not so many staff working in this restaurant, they are quite qualified and willing to give advice. The behaviors of them were very gentle and made us relax and comfort, which just suits the environment of the restaurant. Highly recommend for vacations or small...
Read moreA fantastic fine dining option in Carnac, holds a Michelin star and is managed by a lovely couple with friendly staff. The food was exceptional, going for the tasting menu the chef really brought out the flavours from local ingredients at the same time keeping the dish balanced. It's great value and the wines themselves are quite an adventure into bio (sommelier had a focus on vin de France appellation). The venue itself is bright and relaxing and want to shout out the staff again who were brilliant given the shortage of personnel. There is also a hotel on site with the team providing a lovely...
