On balance, the meal was fine. The biggest pleasant culinary surprise was early in the meal. The oysters, kale, and scallops were a great surprise. Also, this was paired with a pear wine. Before I tasted it all together, I had my doubts about how this would work, but it was extremely tasty. Chef Florent shows great talent. Also, I give a shout out to the ravioli and fois gras sauce. My plate was clean enough to use again after I soaked all of the sauce with my bread. Also, I give them fairly high praise for accommodating one of our lactose allergies, although I noticed a couple of times sauces were simply removed and not substituted. Also, our lamb had likely been delayed to the table because it was noticeably cooler than it should have been.
Service was efficient, but I saw a couple minor missteps along the way. At one point the server dropped the bread on the table and simply replaced it on the plate. Also, we smelled mildew off and on throughout the meal (maybe on the clothes of some of the staff). None of these are catastrophic failures but could use a little fine tuning.
For the entire experience, we had two tasting menus (the lower priced one because frankly we liked the lower priced choices better than the higher priced ones), and we each had a wine pairing. The total price was $300 USD and 15 Euros left as a note of appreciation.
This meal sits somewhere between ok and good, but I would lean more towards good. It is a nice option for an overall high-end experience, but if you want to spend more to avoid any rough edges, then I would suggest...
Read moreBest gourmet experience! We took the tasting menu containing 7 courses plus one appetizer and an extra dessert, costing 98€. There’s also an option in 78€ which includes fish instead of meat. In my opinion the value was over the price by far, we left so full and satisfied! The dishes were excellent, the quantity was fair and the ingredients were so fresh and well handled. The octopus, scallops, salmon and wagyu beef were just perfect- best I’ve ever had. The dishes went out in perfect timing. The service was excellent as well! The staff is so kind and professional, they know what you want and need before you even know it yourself haha. They treated us with such respect and joy, it’s worth visiting just for the service honestly. Overall experience was no less that perfect, I highly recommend every visitor in lyon to come eat in Monsieur P, especially if you’re a food enthusiast like me! I definitely hope to come back...
Read moreHaving toured Provence and following several exquisite dining experiences; we were excited to try this restaurant in France’s food capital. Alas…at best, it does try. However, the menu is hardly innovative. Also, the staff could do with more training. The white wine was initially served at the wrong temperature. The scallop starter was gritty. This is a rookie mistake. And when this was pointed out; the waiter insisted it was normal to serve it that way. Certainly not what is expected of a restaurant that promotes itself as a fine dinning establishment. Message to the restaurant: please treat your customers with more respect. Most of us have eaten at much better managed restaurants so don’t mistake us for fools and spin stories to cover up...
