This place is difficult to rate with just one rating because there's a disparity between the food and the service.
Let's talk about the food first. The starter and the main course came out super fast after we placed our order and everything was delicious. The starter was like a kimchi pancake/unfilled dumpling. Unique texture and very delicious. For the main course, I had the japchae with pork and my friend ordered the bibimbap with beef. Both were great tasting but there were literally only 3 thin slices of pork in my japchae. If there's gonna be that little protein, why even bother?
Now, let's discuss the service. The two servers were very nice and courteous, and it was obvious they were doing their best to work diligently. However, after my friend and I finished our main course, the servers just ignored us. Nobody checked on us or bothered to take away our dirty dishes from the table. I can't say for sure whether this was cultural as I know the French enjoy lingering at the table and conversing after dinner, but they could have at least come to check on us and get the dirty dishes. We finally had to flag down one of the servers to take away the dishes, as well as request our dessert. Again, it seems like this is something that should have been done without needing to be asked.
Lastly, they need to configure their tables better. Between the way the tables were set up and where we were seated, my friend and I had to get up no less than six times so that the servers could get to one of the other tables. This inconvenience was minor but annoying; I mean, would you want to get up and move multiple times during dinner so that the server can access another table to take their orders, bring their food and drinks, and clear their trays? All this could have been avoided entirely if they just configured their table setup better.
Overall, if I patronize this restaurant again, it will only be for takeout. Based in my experience, it's highly unlikely that I'll be back...
Read moreNo idea why this place is highly rated. Bi bam bap consisted of old (dry) rice dished into stone bowls, which it wasn't cooked in—just for aesthetics, the rice was not crispy, and, there were small portions, one of the worst I have had, including countries where they can't get any of the ingredients. And, the owner kept berating the waitress, at our table, for her English, making everyone uncomfortable at the table. So rude! We felt really bad for her. Toxic masculinity power tripping nightmare boss vibes. 2 stars for the ambience and...
Read moreA lovely little Korean restaurant in the heart of Lyon specializing in bibimbap and japchae. Delicious food, extremely nice service (French, English and Korean spoken). On the weekends it's best to get a reservation at night although the owners try to accommodate everyone. Reservations can easily be made on Kyun's website and are confirmed almost immediately. One of my favorite...
