The table we were given was not very nice, at the furthest edge of the terrace. I had reserved at 2:00 pm before the restaurant closed for lunch and the lady who attended me offered me a selection of times, which means I wasn’t the last person to choose, so she could have made a better effort in seating us. It also took half an hour for the first course, the oysters, to arrive. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly, an exception in Marseille where we have been treated exceptionally well wherever we have gone. The oysters were 19€ for 6 oysters but they were truly delicious, as were the main courses: Tuna Carpaccio with radishes and peas and Cold asparagus with tartar sauce, smoked mackerel and croutons. And then, for dessert, we had the best Mousse au chocolat that we have ever had. So really, the 3 stars are due to the table, which made us feel exposed to all the people who came to see the menu and to consider if they came, it felt a bit as if we...
Read moreExcellent food, great service, relaxed atmosphere. The last time I visited a restaurant in France was in Paris about 20 years ago. At that time the waiters definitely lived up to the cliche of being rude, arrogant, and unhelpful. Either things have changed generally in France or Coquille is simply exceptional. I am prone to think the latter. From the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. When it became apparent that none of my group spoke French, a charming, English speaking waitress became our contact for the evening. She translated the menu for us, provided information about the dishes, and was happy to arrange alterations. Exemplary service. The food was delicious. Our waitresses' guidance gave me the confidence to try Mussels for the first time (very nice) and the skate was sublime. Beautifully cooked and delicately seasoned. My only suggestion would be to broaden the desert menu. Overall a...
Read moreWe found this place from a site of a food critic. It has high remarks from the site so we went here. We had to book for another day as the night we arrived without booking was already full. The lady handling the reservation was really accommodating and friendly. On the day of our reserved dinner, we were welcomed by the same lady handling the reservations and she asked as to wait a bit while the table was being cleaned. Took a bit of time waiting but we were given free drinks while waiting (we had champagne). The food was tasty and exquisite. The staff assigned to us was also good, attentive, and friendly. One of the best restos we visited in Marseille. Highly recommended but make sure to have a...
