Bambino Rocco — Restaurant in Montpellier

Pizzas looked great, but the big ball of cheese in the middle of the Rustica pizza was cold in the center and there was too much sauce so the crust was soggy and limp on the bottom. The Quattro Formaggi pizza had similar problems: way too much cheese and cream base made the pizza gooey and flavorless with a soggy, flaccid crust on the bottom. The crusts look good but lack flavor, they need salt and l/or yeast, the crust at the edge was cooked well but lacked chewiness. The arugula/rocket salad we shared as an appetizer was so overdressed that the arugula was limp as though it had been sautéed. In our previous visit and this visit again staff seems to want to rush us and upsell us on everything (“the portion is really small for sharing”). Feels like a tourist trap in the worst possible way, which is disappointing because it could be good, the ingredients are fresh and high quality but the seasoning, preparation, and customer service disappoint. I sent an e-mail after our first bad experience (back in May or June) and nobody emailed me back. I had vowed to never return after that experience. We wanted to come to this place after seeing a beautiful picture on Insragram of mafaldine with wild mushrooms and beautiful truffle shavings on top. In reality, we got a simple pasta with literally 1/2 common/button mushroom (those that you find in any supermarket)… very disappointing for 22 euros!

Then we took a pizza Margherita… I guess they change the pizzaiolo lately, really nothing special, small and I even didn’t manage to finish it, was a bit too chewy. The mozzarella wasn't even melted a bit, so made the pizza cold and not tasty.

The salad with shaving of cheese was indeed the best plate. That one is good!

Service was cute and kind, but definitely they felt we weren’t happy and they didn't do any extra step... suggestion for the owner, in this case try to offer a limoncello or a coffee!

We would have paid even more... But I'm sorry for this quality not...

I made a reservation for a party of four last Saturday through their website, which was a straightforward process. Upon arrival, we were seated at an outdoor table. The ambiance was delightful, with plenty of shading to keep us comfortable. Our waiter, whose name I regrettably forgot, was exceptionally friendly. He even accommodated English-speaking colleagues who didn't speak French.

The food was good, although there's room for improvement. Given the affordable prices, it's a five-star experience for students like us. One of my colleagues received the wrong order, but the waiter promptly rectified it. The payment process was simple, with the option to split the bill, and card payments were accepted. Overall, it was a fantastic experience in sunny Montpellier, deserving...
