HIPO — Restaurant in Nantes

HIPO is an interesting combination of a bar, mini-mart and a tiny restaurant in one. The atmosphere inside is cozy and the lady who served us was especially nice. Helpful, talkative and willing to speak english, even though she claimed her knowledge of it was not extensive. Later when we pulled out our map to plan out route she even came to us and gave us suggestions for must see spots, which was very kind of her. But we mostly came to HIPO for more affordable tasty lunch, based on previous reviews. There was offer of two options for vietnamese soup for 8,50€ (shrimp one or vegetarian) and naturally we gave it a try + ordered chicken curry for 10,50€ to also stick to something we knew. The verdict is that the meals tasted amazing and the portions were sufficiently large. Good food for the value combined with pleasant atmosphere and kind service was something that is worth experiencing when checking...

The owner here has the best smile! She is so friendly. I wanted to have Pho, but they only offer it on weekend. So I tried this food which is delicious. I only speak English, her son helped us to translate the order. He is adorable boy ~ he said he likes to practice English. If you feel like to as well. You should come...

Passé devant un peu par hasard, j'ai été attiré par la bonne odeur qui s'en dégageait. Hipo est un lieu un peu atypique, dans la mesure où il y a une activité à la fois de bar-tabac d'un côté, et de restauration (vietnamienne) de l'autre. On y est très bien accueilli : Binh et Hoan sont souriants, prévenants, et s'intéressent aux gens. Cela fait plaisir de rencontrer des gens ouverts, et qui vous considèrent comme une personne à part entière, et non pas comme un énième client. La nourriture y est très bonne (je n'ai goûté qu'un bo bun et un banh mi pour l'instant), simple, faite avec une attention portée aux saveurs, et vraiment bon marché. Autre point positif : de petits piments (forts) apportés en option si on le souhaite; On ne brade pas le goût original pour préserver les fragiles palets européens...

En résumé : un (petit) lieu de restauration et de vie très agréable, qui je l'espère...
