So, we visited the restaurant on Tuesday, lunch time. I had a reservation but half of the place was empty. The welcome personnel is really not nice. My boyfriend went in to check if it is colder indoors before getting seated and three people jumped on him to check if he had a reservation. I would probably understand this unwelcoming behavior if the restaurant was full and it was Friday night:)
I truly believe the personnel should speak English good enough to explain the dishes. At least, the basics. We had to order and be surprised how the dishes would look like. I also don’t do dairy so not possible for us to manage that.
The fish soup is actually a not-so-common way of cooking bouillabaisse. It does not have whole seafood in it. Most people would expect fish in the soup. Some fish is blended. It is savoury but still the waiters should manage the expectations of the guests.
The mussels curry: also a bit of a waste as the mussels are incredibly tiny and the pit is big so it is an hour to find some meat there. We left almost the whole pot. The curry itself is great but really nobody said it is a huge pot for 2 people and it is a lot of WORK:)
All comes down to the fact that nobody presents the dishes or explains in English what is what. Like, they brought me the red soup with yellow mayonnaise, whole garlics and croutons. I had no idea how to mix it etc. Apparently, the seafood is blended into the broth, the garlic is make yourself a garlic bread and the mayo is to be put on top of the bread to after soak it in the soup. That was said in French to me 2 times but I still was not sure:)
The setting is nice, the ingredients not bad, the artichoke salad is a hit, the...
Read morePerfect spot for a glamorous lunch overlooking the sea (well sort of)! On a long stretch of the promenade / coast line of the Beaulieu-sur-Mer seaside section, with plenty of parking, this is the perfect location to enjoy the sun (if you want) and the fresh air. There are plenty of other restaurants nearby but I have only been to this one. It looks more glamorous and chic. The menu is simple - a lot of seafood, but some meat too. Not cheap, but chicness costs! The wine list is huge: obviously catering to the expense account residents in nearby Monaco. BUT, there is a beautiful rose from the Pierrefeu region. Delicious and costs €30. We chose the daily special of a roast shoulder of lamb for €80 for 2 person. It was curiously cooked pinkish. But it was delicious. We love the burnt fatty bits on the outside. Too much food for 2 though, but we managed to eat 3/4 of it. The gravy is to die for. Most diners seem to come from Russia, but I suspect they 'reside' in Monaco. Glamour and money drip.....everywhere. Don't let that dissuade you - you can order what you want and enjoy the...
Read moreWell, Haven’t been here for 10 years - back then it was fantastic - place to be -great food! Went there last weekend. Its still a place to see and be seen if thats what you want. The service was efficient, but the experience rushed - waiters curt. Its obviously about the turn around of tables now. The worst thing was the food. We both had a prawn cocktail which had the worst most bland sauce ever. Then with our main course which was “ok” came a “green salad” that we had asked for. It was basicaly a tiny bowl like an ashtray, which had chooped iceberg lettuce soaked in olive oil - it was not edible. This place is not cheap either. The decor has changed - gone are the quirky fittings like the laterns and ropes, which it Was famed for. The owners should take a step back and review what they are offering, or people simply will stop coming. Sort the food, the production line effect and the service. Dont go here for food - plenty of other lovely places along the coast with top notch food. I am not alone - check other reviews. Shame! Was a lovely place...
