Skip this one, poorly cooked, bad service.
We visited this restaurant on a recommandation last week, what a bad choice. I begin to think this was only due to the low price, but it was not even worth the 20 EUR.
First of all, we booked the table the day before, by showing up, had a good talk with the owner (I presume) in English. He took my number and name, for a callback next day to confirm the reservation. He called the day after, again in English, all good.
Later that night, he must have forgotten his English, after several attempts to communicate, he insisted in only speaking French.
For starters we had a tasteless soup, and tomato with meat, which were not cooked enough.
For main we have different meats, the beef was undercook, and so tough that it was almost imposible to chew. The sursage was still raw inside.
The desserts was below average, but fine.
The wine selection was limited, and plain.
You should also be aware, if you sit outside in the narrow street, people passby very close.
I have no idea why people would recommend this please for a “authentic” French meal, there is SO many other good places in Nice. But that could be due to...
Read moreChez Palmyre is an experience in classic French dining. The place has been open for 80 years and somehow has maintained a mom-and-pop feel (and prices) despite being very popular. We paid 20 eur for each of our meals, plus 12 eur for a bottle of merlot.
They do two services (7:30 and 9:30)--we got lucky and stopped by one night and got a last minute second service booking for the same evening. That did mean they were out of one dish, but everything else was available. As others have written, the ingredients were fresh and the food was elegant and delicious.
It's quite a small space and very busy. One server runs all of the food and answers the phone at the same time. Make a reservation on the phone ahead of time, but call in the morning (10 AM ish). Since he's serving while answering the phones, he doesn't really have time to look through the books during the dinner times. If in North America, it's worth getting up for 5 minutes at 3 AM to make a...

We went to Chez Palmyre last night having found this little gem of a restaurant a week or so ago online and calling to book a table. We weren’t disappointed.
In fact you HAVE to book in advance. There are only 30 seats and it was full on a Thursday evening and at least that number of people were turned away whilst we ate. I wondered why they called during the day to double check if we were coming….it is because every seat is highly sought after!
There is a set three course menu for 20 euros - the food is straightforward and wonderfully tasty. We also had two bottles of the house white wine….which I would highly recommend.
Christophe the waiter is tremendous. A great guy and good to chat to.
I still can’t believe that we had the wonderful meal and wine for two for just 56 euros. If I could give more than five...
