Thoroughly disappointed with this food experience. My husband & I are on our honeymoon, and heard rave reviews from everyone, Including a recommendation from our airbnb host. We ordered 2 apps, 2 mains, and red wine. Not one thing was more than “okay”. We had the calamari, which was plain tasting and kind of flavorless. The sauce was okay. The vegetables weren’t seasoned, so they didn’t add much to the dish.
We also got the mussels. Absolutely nothing special about these, you could get these anywhere and they’d be similar quality.
For the mains, first off we got the cod. the fish was not glazed, seasoned, or anything so was really boring to eat. The sauce was nothing special and watery. The vegetables had little to no flavor and were a bit hard. It was all pretty salty as well.
The second main we got was the beef with pasta. Hard to say if this was better or worse than the other one. The meat was so salty, the pasta flavorless. Honestly have had better tasting beef from a Dominican spot in upper Manhattan that was under $10.
This was an expensive, and thoroughly disappointing meal. I hate to waste money on food that is sub-par, which this entire experience was. If you are visiting Nice, there’s so many other better restaurants where you’ll spend less, have better food, and better service. Don’t waste a...
Read moreWe were a party of 10 at the beginning of the summer. Three French speakers, the rest from around the globe. The evening started off very well. Two very attentive male waiters, who took their time explaining the menu to those who didn’t speak French and interacting with us. We thought the wine and champagne excellent, the starters and mains were also delicious and wonderfully presented, we were impressed. None of us were impressed with any of the desserts we tried so would say that’s not their forte. The bill came and we thought was very reasonable, we rounded it up to 500 and added another 100 as a tip. Said thank you and started to collect our things to leave. That’s where it went wrong.. as we passed the bar one of the waiters very rudely and agressively threw down a few euros on the bar (the amount we’d rounded up) and said “your change” before storming off. We French speakers went back in to see what the problem was. Turns out they hadn’t counted the money before putting it in the till. So they presumed we’d “only” given them a few euros tip. He was rude again and the woman in charge no better. Left with a really sour taste in our mouths, their terrible behaviour ruined what was mostly an amazing meal....
Read moreLocated on the north edge of Old Nice, Comptoir du Marche is a cozy French bistro that serves Mediterranean cooking which was perfect for lunch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It feels like you’re sitting in someone’s French kitchen more than a restaurant! A reservation is recommended due to the popularity. We were lucky to walk in but we attended before normal lunch hours start.
The menu is written in French on a large chalkboard which they bring around to each table. There is no English side, so you have to ask if you need help and they were very happy to explain. You are served a starter of a lighter crusty bread with butter that doesn’t dampen your appetite before the main course. We ordered the veal with gnocchi and the chicken supreme with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. They were both well plated and beautifully cooked. It was absolutely delicious. The serving size was very nice for a small lunch but for those with a bigger appetite, a dessert would complete the meal nicely!
We would definitely come back to this restaurant if we visit Nice again. The menu looks to change often and with the quality of the food, it would be great to see what...
