This is was the best restaurant we visited during our 6 day stay in Nice, and I would be surprised if it wasn’t the best in all of Nice, it was that amazing.
I discovered the restaurant when consulting the Michelin Guide for Nice, this restaurant is listed there as a « Bib Gourmand », which is not star, but denotes a special and quality restaurant, very much worth a visit, and I agree wholeheartedly.
We went for the lunch menu which is a a ridiculously good value (25€ for appetizer+main or main+dessert, and 29.50€ for appetizer+main+dessert). The menu is small, with 3 options for each course, but all were amazing.
We loved every course, the raw fish ceviche, the unique and inventive (and astonishingly delicious) pork ravioli in broth, the risotto, the shrimp spaghetti, and for dessert the tiramisu and one of the best renditions of cheesecake I’ve ever had.
The service and ambiance was immaculate, with a mix of locals and visitors as the clientele. The value for money, the quality and care put into the recipes, preparation, and presentation, and the overall amazing taste of the dishes make this a must visit if you are visiting Nice.
Make sure you reserve! We were able to reserve for lunch with no issues a few days in advance, but they almost always fill up, so don’t bet...
Read moreDissenting view here. Food was tasty (portions are definitely not generous) and priced ok. Service is a disaster. We ate outside in the cold despite tables freeing up inside and being told we would be moved indoors. Also worse noting that only 2 tables were used outdoors but we ended up placed right next to other customers, not great privacy wise. I did ask again and they said yes but then served the main course outdoors again. The waiters did not offer any explanation to the complicated menu wording and avoided eye contact or interaction with us. Left in the cold, we obviously declined to get coffee or dessert and left as soon as practical. Only one toilet for all, you might have to queue our keep an eye on it for a while before it frees up. Cannot recommend.
Update: The restaurant response does not address our various points, but instead gives a commercial spin and their "truth". The fact that it was agreed we would be moved inside once a table would free up which happened during our starter. The fact is that each of us had to wait for the bathroom to be free and then even went to queue inside with others. The manager maybe happy with one toilet. Our experience was poor. Oh, it was a cold rainy day, so let's not mention the "sunny...
Read moreStayed in Nice for a week ,at the beginning of September. L' Alchimie was initially closed for a short staff holiday, so we booked for the first Thursday lunchtime they reopened. You do need to book online quite in advance, because the restaurant is very popular, small and friendly. The prix fix menu is superb value and the food by far the best we had all week. Even the quality of the bread provided with the food was in a different league to every where else we ate. We rowed the boat out, with a pre meal glass of champagne (excellent,Valery Robert), then glasses of wine with the food. The pork Ravioli in what I would describe as a Thai inspired veloute' was a highlight for me ( in my experience unusual to have some real spice in french food, perfect). My wife had the Tomatoes with stracciatella cheese, vegetarian starter, she was very impressed. For mains, both the Lamb and the Prawns were both supremely tasty. The desserts also , freshly made and impressive, not overly sweet. Finished with coffee and an excellent XO rum, all for €110 in total. We will definitely return. Thank you to Arnaud Collin ( chef patron) and Romain(...
