We have spent the last three weeks in Italy and France and tonight was our last night on vacation. I had researched Le Séjour before we even left the United States and was excited to take my husband here for dinner. Unfortunately, instead of being able to rave about how fabulous our experience was, I am writing that it was just okay. Mediocre for the price point and expectations set by other reviewers and we went all out with wine, appetizers, dinner and dessert. We were off to a great start with a nice bottle of wine from the Rhône and decent appetizers. But in between the starter and the main course it seems we were forgotten as I watched multiple other patrons arrive, be served the same entrees we ordered and leave before our main course arrived. It was over an hour between courses and without an glance from the owner or our server. (Not to mention that a large party arrived and a woman carrying a baby stepped over to my chair and smacked me in the face with her infant. Like actually leaned so far over my chair while holding her infant I caught a baby leg to the left cheek. This was not acknowledged by the staff at all). My husband had ordered the tuna and specifically inquired as to how it was prepared - seared quickly on either side was what he was told. As he loves that in tuna and loved it seated but cool in the center, he ordered it and was excited to try it. When our main courses finally arrived and his fish was so over cooked it was literally dry to the point of chewy. And I mean, like badly over cooked chicken....it was dry rubber. I was really frustrated that he would not let me say anything to the staff but he didn’t want to wait another hour for food without any service in between. Mind you, we purchased a nice bottle of wine and probably would have ordered a second one if we had ever been acknowledged again but we were never even offered water. It’s unfortunate because my lobster risotto was very good, but I had a hard time enjoying it given his meal was awful and the service was so lackluster. I wanted to love Le Séjour and I wanted to end our trip on a high note of a very nice meal. That was not meant to be...and not meant to be to the tune of about $225 for the two of us for...
Read moreMy family and I dined here last week and what a treat. This is a family owned and run restaurant and the love of food, wine and hospitality shown throughout. We were allocated a table outside and it was perfect - even though it was a warm evening, there was still a small breeze. We ordered a the carpaccio, prawns and Thai cannelloni for starters which we said we would like to share as they all sounded amazing. The carpaccio and the prawns were extremely fresh, melt in the mouth and full of flavour. The Thai cannelloni was good but lacked a slight punch in flavour. The coconut cream could have done with some Thai green flavours to really pack in the taste experience.
For mains we ordered the lobster pasta and the cod with ratatouille. Two mains were enough as the portion sizes are very generous. Again, very fresh and well made. Pasta was al dente and the sauce had the slightest hint of chilli which complemented the sweetness of the lobster.
To finish we tried the soufflé. This was the only small disappointment of the evening. The table next to us was served the most beautifully risen soufflé- but unfortunately ours was a little sorry for itself. I appreciate that soufflés are extremely temperamental but having seen the one on the next table, our expectations were high. There was also a lot of sweetness from the granulated sugar which was a little jarring.
For wine we ordered the Alsace Riesling and that was crisp, slightly fruity and an excellent accompaniment to our dishes.
We would definitely recommend a visit to Le Sejour if you are in Nice. Be sure to book -...

The first time I came by during COVID I ate so well and I liked very much the idea of creating a cozy and friendly space like we are eating chez quelqu’un even though there were already way too many tables. I wanted to bring my mom but at 20:30 our table wasn’t ready because they wanted to give us a specific table where 2 people were having coffee. (Cappuccinos were served when we were already there so the 5 min they told us to wait could have been 1h for what we knew). Then they continued to ask if we wanted to seat down on free tables but every table after a few minutes were occupied by people who came for their own reservations. There is no space like a bar to wait to properly seat down. They also wanted to give us a specific table ‘cause we had a 2kg dog, but for medium and big dogs there is no place to properly lay down without worrying because of the lack of space and for bothering the other guests. Tiny dogs have to be on the owners legs also if you don’t want to worry anyways to be down there with no space. We left before getting « our » table. SO
